Business Unit Head (Assistant Vice President or Vice President) - US Tax

Responsible for strategic ownership, P-L management, delivery excellence, and digital transformation of the US Corporate and Indirect Tax outsourcing practice.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership - Business Growth:

- P-L Ownership: Manage the financial health, budgeting, and margin maximization for the entire US Tax business unit.

- Client Advisory - Growth: Act as the primary relationship partner for Fortune Global 500 C-suite executives, pitching tax transformation capabilities and expanding existing accounts.

- Go-to-Market Strategy: Partner with onshore sales teams to design and sell outsourced US Tax operations models to prospective US MNC clients.

2. Service Delivery - Practice Governance:

- End-to-End Tax Operations: Oversee the accurate execution of complex US Direct Tax (Forms 1120, 1065, ASC 740 tax provisions) and US Indirect Tax (Sales - Use, Property Tax) compliance.

- SLA - Quality Assurance: Ensure 100% adherence to strict statutory IRS deadlines, state tax timelines, and client service-level agreements (SLAs).

- Risk - Compliance Management: Ensure robust internal controls, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, and support during federal and state tax audits.

3. Digital Transformation - Innovation:

- AI - Automation Integration: Drive the deployment of advanced tax technology tools, Generative AI applications, and analytical workflows (e.g., Alteryx, Vertex, Blackline, OneSource) to optimize efficiency.

- Process Standardisation: Transition custom legacy tax processes into automated, structured shared services workflows.

4. Client Relationship, Growth - P-L Management:

- Oversee the management of client engagements, ensuring effective communication, risk management, and timely delivery.

- Act as the main point of contact for escalated client issues and work collaboratively to resolve them and ensure high client satisfaction.

- Strategically host client visits to showcase the Business Unit's capabilities, infrastructure, and talent, fostering trust and strengthening relationships.

- Oversee the development of compelling proposals, collaterals, presentations, and marketing materials to effectively position the Business Unit's capabilities.

- Own the P-L for the US taxation business unit, driving revenue growth, operational efficiency, cross-utilization and profitability.

- Partner with the Pre-Sales and Business Development team during client onboarding to thoroughly understand their needs and expectations, while also proactively engaging with existing clients to identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities.

- Submit the team's monthly productivity, CPE hours, along with your own, to the HR team for uploading it into Keka.

- Hold monthly feedback calls with clients to gather insights and improve service delivery.

5. People Management - Capability Building:

- Large Team Oversight: Lead, mentor, and expand a multi-tiered organization of hundreds of tax professionals (ranging from Associates to Senior Directors).

- Talent Development: Drive upskilling initiatives around complex US tax laws, regulatory shifts (e.g., Pillar Two compliance), and data fluency.

- Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing US Tax team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.

- Foster a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and knowledge sharing within the Business Unit.

- Understand clients' business objectives and provide tailored tax solutions to meet their needs and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for the taxation outsourcing function and regularly report on the team's performance against these metrics.

- Identify talent gaps and implement effective recruitment and retention strategies.

- Develop training materials and deliver sessions on updates related to US tax rollouts and updates.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, ensuring exceptional service delivery and timely communication.

- Write, optimize, and vetting of the blogs and white papers on various industry-related topics.

Qualification And Experience:

- CA or CPA with 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate financial services or Big 4 accounting firms or multinational shared-service centres or F-A BPO environments with at least 6+ years specifically leading large-scale US Tax setups.

- Deep knowledge of US GAAP, internal revenue codes (IRC), Federal/State compliance, and global mobility/corporate structures.

- Deep technical command of US corporate/partnership tax laws, tax accounting standards, and international regulations.

- Expert knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 740, federal/state compliance, and tax internal controls (SoX).

- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills to influence C-suite executives and external partners.
