Job Title: AVP / VP - Public Relations
Location: Mumbai, India
Reporting to: Head - Marketing and Investor Education
Industry: Financial Services/Media handling BFSI sector.
Role Overview:
- The AVP / VP - Public Relations will lead external communication and public relations strategy to shape perception, build credibility, and enhance visibility of India's mutual fund industry.
- The role will serve as AMFI's chief PR architect, ensuring effective engagement with media, regulatory stakeholders, and the broader public. The individual will be responsible for managing press relationships, developing external messaging, and responding to emerging narratives about the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Media Relations & Spokesperson Engagement:
- Act as primary liaison with national and regional media, financial publications, and wire services.
- Draft press releases, official statements, media FAQs, and talking points for leadership.
- Proactively engage with journalists to secure coverage of industry updates, policy developments, and investor awareness initiatives.
2. Press Strategy & Narrative Management:
- Design and execute AMFI's annual PR plan, aligned with its regulatory and advocacy agenda.
- Position AMFI and its spokespeople as the trusted voice of the Indian mutual fund industry through timely and credible communication.
- Anticipate and shape media narratives around economic, regulatory, or market-related developments affecting the mutual fund ecosystem.
3. Reputation & Issue Management:
- Monitor media coverage and public sentiment around mutual funds and AMFI and proactively manage reputational risks.
- Manage PR response during sensitive situations such as market volatility, regulatory shifts, or investor sentiment crises.
- Ensure consistent and fact-based messaging in alignment with SEBI guidelines and industry norms.
4. Stakeholder Communication:
- Liaise with AMFI Leadership, AMFI Board, Regulators, government officials, and member AMCs on joint public announcements or clarifications.
- Support the CEO and AMFI representatives in preparing for public forums, press briefings, and panel appearances. 5. Press Events & Media Outreach
- Organize press conferences, media roundtables, and briefings to disseminate AMFI's views and reports.
- Build long-term relationships with financial journalists, editors, and influencers.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Postgraduate degree in Public Relations, Mass Communication, Journalism, or related field.
- Minimum 5-10 years of public relations experience, with at least 5 years in a senior/external communication role in financial services or industry associations.
- Deep understanding of India's mutual fund sector, capital markets, and financial media landscape.
Key Skills:
- Exceptional media handling and press writing skills.
- Strong grasp of public policy and financial sector communication.
- Ability to operate with discretion, diplomacy, and credibility under public scrutiny.
- Fluent in English; working knowledge of Hindi and/or regional languages is a plus.
