The sales specialist will manage and drive institutional and corporate client relationships within the commodities division. The desk is responsible for selling commodity products (physical and derivatives), executing trades, and providing advisory and risk management solutions. This role demands expertise in market analysis, client engagement, and proactive sales execution in a high-pressure financial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Acquire, develop, and retain institutional and corporate clients for commodity products including metals, energy, and agriculture.
- Execute trades, negotiate terms, and handle booking and pricing processes.
- Analyze market drivers, prepare investment proposals, and advise clients on commodities and derivatives strategies.
- Structure and present hedging and risk management solutions tailored to client requirements.
- Collaborate with trading desks, research teams, and risk management to ensure efficient and compliant deal flow.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure all activities conform to legal and internal standards.
- Maintain and expand business opportunities via cross-selling and coverage expansion initiatives.
- Generate and review periodic sales reports for management, analyzing performance, revenue, and market penetration.
- Represent the desk in client meetings, industry events, and internal forums, supporting senior management with market insights.
Core Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field (advanced degrees preferred).
- At least 5 years' experience in commodity sales, trading, or relationship management in banks or broking houses.
- Strong understanding of commodity markets (physical and derivatives), pricing models, and risk management strategies.
- Proven track record of achieving demanding sales targets and managing key client relationships.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills; adept at handling complex deals and client presentations.
- Proficiency with financial modelling, Excel, and trading platforms; familiarity with compliance and reporting tools.
- Certifications such as CFA/FRM/other relevant qualifications are preferred, though not mandatory.
- Ability to perform well under pressure, multitask, and operate independently within high-stakes sales environments.
