Assistant Vice President (AVP) - Investment Consulting
Insurance | Pension | Retirement | Institutional Investment Advisory
Role Summary:
The AVP - Investment Consulting will lead a senior institutional investment consulting capability serving insurance, pension and retirement clients. The role is accountable for delivering high-quality investment advisory solutions across strategic asset allocation, asset liability modelling, manager research, portfolio construction, investment governance, performance analytics, risk oversight and market insights. The role requires a seasoned consulting leader who can manage senior stakeholders, grow client relationships, lead large teams and build scalable delivery standards across global or multi-location operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead investment consulting engagements for insurance, pension, retirement and institutional clients.
- Advise clients on strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction and investment strategy.
- Lead Asset Liability Modelling (ALM), Liability Driven Investing (LDI) and balance sheet optimization initiatives.
- Oversee fund manager research, manager selection, operational due diligence and ongoing monitoring.
- Provide investment governance, fiduciary oversight and Investment Policy Statement (IPS) recommendations.
- Deliver portfolio performance measurement, attribution analysis and risk analytics across asset classes.
- Provide market insights, macroeconomic perspectives and investment recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Partner with actuarial, risk, analytics and investment teams to deliver integrated client solutions.
- Build and manage senior client relationships, investment committees and executive stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor and develop large global teams, capability building and operational excellence.
- Drive process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement across consulting operations including use of AI.
- Support business development through client acquisition, proposal development, RFP / tender responses, and cross-sell opportunities.
- Contribute to thought leadership, market research and development of innovative investment solutions.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, fiduciary, risk management and governance requirements.
- Manage strategic initiatives, resource planning, and delivery of business growth objectives.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 15-20 years of relevant experience in investment consulting, institutional advisory, pension/retirement consulting, insurance investments, asset management, OCIO/fiduciary management, portfolio management or capital markets.
- Masters degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Engineering or a related quantitative/business discipline.
- CFA strongly preferred. CAIA, FRM, FIA/FSA/actuarial credentials, MBA or other relevant investment/risk qualifications are advantageous.
- Deep understanding of capital markets, ALM/LDI, asset allocation, manager research, portfolio construction, performance measurement, risk analytics, pension funding, retirement plan governance and insurance investment considerations.
- Demonstrated experience leading large teams, senior managers and specialist functions.
- Proven ability to manage senior institutional client relationships, present to boards/investment committees, resolve complex issues and translate technical analysis into actionable recommendations.
- Experience supporting business development, RFPs, proposal creation, client presentations, relationship expansion and thought leadership.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint required. Familiarity with investment analytics platforms, performance systems, ALM tools, Power BI, VBA, Python, SQL or automation tools is beneficial.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience advising insurance companies, pension funds, defined benefit and defined contribution plans, retirement plan sponsors, fiduciary/OCIO mandates or large institutional asset owners.
- Exposure to global investment markets and multi-asset portfolios, including fixed income, credit, equities, private markets, real assets, hedge funds and liability-aware strategies.
- Experience working with actuarial teams on pension funding, ALM studies, insurance capital, risk transfer, de-risking or annuity/retirement portfolio strategies.
- Experience establishing investment research frameworks, governance standards, manager review committees, quality review mechanisms or centralized consulting delivery models.
- Experience managing P&L, service line growth, large-scale transformation or global capability center operations is desirable.
