Role Overview:
As the AVP - A&H Retail Underwriting, you will be at the forefront of our Accident & Health retail underwriting operations, driving profitability and sustainable growth. Your day-to-day will involve leading a team of underwriters, setting underwriting guidelines, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with sales, product development, and claims teams to optimize our product offerings and underwriting processes. Your expertise will directly impact our ability to provide competitive and profitable A&H insurance solutions to our customers, contributing to the overall success of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of A&H retail underwriters, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and procedures to ensure consistent and profitable risk selection.
- Analyze market trends and competitor offerings to identify opportunities for product innovation and underwriting enhancements.
- Collaborate with the sales team to provide underwriting support for large or complex cases, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Monitor underwriting performance metrics and identify areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Conduct regular audits of underwriting files to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with the claims team to analyze claims data and identify trends that may impact underwriting strategies.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including reinsurers and brokers, to optimize risk transfer and distribution strategies.
Required Skillset:
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement underwriting strategies that drive profitable growth in the A&H retail insurance market.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed underwriting decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing underwriting team.
- In-depth knowledge of A&H insurance products, underwriting principles, and regulatory requirements.
- Adaptability to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CLU, CPCU) preferred.
- Minimum 8-15 years of experience in A&H retail underwriting, with a proven track record of success.
