Assistant Manager - Indirect Tax

Experience:

3-6 years of experience (Indirect Tax and Corporate Tax Compliance). SAP is mandatory.

Qualification:

CA, CMA

Role Summary:

To manage and ensure end-to-end compliance, reporting, advisory, and optimization of indirect taxes (primarily GST and other applicable indirect levies), while minimizing tax risks and supporting business operations through effective tax planning and controls.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance & Filings:

- Ensure timely and accurate filing of GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, GSTR-9C)

- Monitor compliance calendar and statutory deadlines

- Review data before filing to avoid errors and notices

- Ensure reconciliation between books and returns

Input Tax Credit (ITC) Management:

- Validate ITC eligibility and ensure proper availment

- Monitor vendor compliance for ITC optimization (GSTR-2B reconciliation)

- Identify and resolve ITC mismatches and reversals

- Drive vendor communication for compliance gaps

Reconciliation & Reporting:

- Perform monthly reconciliations: GSTR-1 vs Sales Register, GSTR-3B vs Books, GSTR-2B vs Purchase Register

- Identify discrepancies and ensure timely corrections

- Prepare MIS reports for management review

Litigation & Notices Handling:

- Handle GST notices, audits, and departmental queries

- Draft replies and coordinate with consultants/legal teams

- Maintain litigation tracker and documentation

- Support assessments and departmental audits

Tax Planning & Advisory:

- Provide tax advisory on transactions and business models

- Evaluate impact of GST changes on operations

- Suggest tax-efficient structures and process improvements

Process & Controls:

- Strengthen internal controls for GST compliance

- Identify automation opportunities in tax processes

- Ensure SOPs are documented and followed

Team Management:

- Supervise and review work of team members

- Provide training and guidance to junior staff

- Ensure task allocation and timely completion
