Position: AGM / DGM Quality
Qualification: Bachelors Degree in Metallurgical Engineering / Materials Science
Experience: 23 - 25 Years (with a strong background in Integrated Steel Plant)
Salary: As per company standards (based on experience & industry benchmark))
Industry Preference: Integrated Steel Plant (Alloy Steel Long Rolled Products)
Role Purpose
Provide strategic leadership for Quality Assurance & Quality Control across the Integrated Steel Plant value chain Iron Making, Steel Making, Secondary Metallurgy, Casting, and Long Rolling Mills - ensuring metallurgical excellence, process control, customer satisfaction, and global certifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Assurance Across Value Chain
- Oversee QA/QC from raw material stage (iron ore, coke, fluxes, ferro alloys) to final rolled product.
- Ensure quality in Iron Making (BF/DRI), Steel Melting (EAF/BOF), Secondary Refining (LRF/VD/AOD), Continuous Casting, and Rolling Mills (long products).
- Maintain chemical composition, mechanical properties, and microstructure standards in line with customer specifications.
- Drive metallurgical failure analysis, statistical process control (SPC), and reduction of defects/ rejections.
2. Standards & Certifications
- Lead ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 compliance across the plant.
- Ensure BIS/ASTM/EN/JIS certification & compliance for alloy steel grades.
- Coordinate third-party/customer audits and ensure zero non-conformance.
3. Process Improvement & Yield Enhancement
- Reduce rejection/rework rates across steelmaking and rolling mills.
- Implement Six Sigma, Lean, TPM & Kaizen practices for continuous improvement.
- Drive initiatives for higher yield, energy efficiency, and cost optimization through process quality improvements.
4. Customer & Product Development
- Act as customer-facing authority for product approval, audits, and technical interactions.
- Collaborate with R&D for development of new alloy steel grades (automotive, engineering, railways, defence, and energy sectors).
- Ensure delivery of defect-free products with zero customer complaints.
5. Leadership & People Management
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing Quality team across QA labs, NDT, inspection, and metallurgical functions.
- Strengthen technical competency through training & development.
- Drive a culture of discipline, accountability, and excellence.
Core Competencies & Skills
- Strong metallurgical expertise across Integrated Steel Plant processes (Iron to Finished Steel).
- In-depth knowledge of long rolled products blooms, billets, rounds, bars, and special alloy grades.
- Expertise in metallurgical analysis, NDT, and advanced testing techniques.
- Strong leadership in audits, certifications, and customer approvals.
