About Ask Birbal & the Tech lead/ CTO Role:
Ask Birbal is an AI-powered financial concierge that helps users understand, compare, choose, and manage financial products through a simple conversational experience across chat, voice, and app. Our goal is to remove friction from financial decision-making and ensure users always have clarity, confidence, and control over their financial lives.

We are building a ChatGPT-style personalized interface that combines conversational intelligence, contextual personalization, and unbiased decision support. Ask Birbal will support users across the entire financial product lifecycle - from discovery and application to delivery, servicing, and long-term management - closing communication gaps and providing continuous support when it matters most.

As Tech Lead / CTO, you will be responsible for defining, building, and scaling Ask Birbals AI-first technology architecture across all fintech products and platforms. You will lead the design of AI/ML systems, conversational interfaces, data pipelines, and decision engines that power loan discovery, delivery, and lifecycle management.

You will own AI architecture, model development, data strategy, and AI governance, ensuring systems are secure, compliant, explainable, and production-ready. Working closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Engineering teams, you will bridge advanced AI capabilities with real-world financial workflows and build a scalable, trusted, and resilient fintech platform.

Key Responsibilities:

Technology Strategy & Architecture

- Define and own the end-to-end technology roadmap aligned with business goals.

- Architect scalable, modular, API-first systems supporting multiple financial products.

- Ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity across all platforms.

Define model strategies across:

- Traditional ML (XGBoost, RF, Logistic)

- Deep learning

- LLM-based reasoning & document intelligence

AI & Decision Intelligence

- Lead AI strategy across conversational AI, personalization, recommendation, and risk intelligence.

- Oversee data pipelines, model training, deployment, monitoring, and governance.

- Ensure AI systems are explainable, auditable, bias-aware, and production-ready for financial use cases.

- Own end-to-end AI decisioning systems (credit scoring, risk assessment, fraud detection, personalization).

Fintech Security & Compliance

- Build systems aligned with Indian fintech regulatory expectations and industry best practices.

- Own data security, encryption, access control, audit logs, and incident response.

- Ensure readiness for KYC, AML, consent management, and partner audits.

Ensure AI systems meet:

- RBI-aligned risk principles

- Audit and explainability needs

- Bias, fairness, and stability requirements

Product & Business Collaboration

- Work closely with founders and product teams to translate business strategy into technical execution.

- Support enterprise and partner integrations, technical due diligence, and scalability planning.

- Ensure technology decisions directly improve user trust and financial outcomes.

- Help investors and partners understand the AI moat

Engineering Leadership & Team Building

- Hire, mentor, and scale backend, frontend, and data/ML engineering teams.

- Establish engineering best practices for code quality, CI/CD, testing, and observability.

- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and security-first thinking.

Implement fintech-grade MLOps:
- Versioned models

- Approval workflows

- Rollbacks & shadow deployments

Establish incident response for AI failures

Skills & Experience:

3- 7 years of hands-on engineering experience, including senior leadership roles.

Strong understanding of Explainable AI (SHAP, monotonic constraints)

Hands on with : Python, ML frameworks, LLM orchestration (RAG, tools, prompts), Vector databases

Experience working with : Banks, NBFCs, or regulated fintech's (good to have)

Experience building and leading senior technical teams

Strong judgment under regulatory and financial risk

Ability to explain AI decisions to Non-technical team members and Investors

Proven track record of building and scaling AI-driven or data-intensive products.

Deep understanding of backend architecture, cloud infrastructure, and secure systems.

Experience taking products from 0 1 scale in a start-up or growth environment.
