Job Profile / Role Summary

The Head / GM - Business Development will lead and drive all strategic and operational initiatives for third-party manufacturing, domestic BD, and CDMO business verticals. This role demands strong market understanding, relationship management, commercial negotiation skills, and P&L orientation. The candidate will handle key client accounts, new customer acquisition, product portfolio expansion, and revenue growth, while coordinating closely with production, regulatory, supply chain, and finance teams.

Key Responsibilities (KRAs)

- Drive annual revenue targets for third-party/contract manufacturing and domestic CDMO verticals.

- Build, manage, and expand client base across pharma companies, private labels, startups, and domestic marketing firms.

- Identify high-potential customers, new business opportunities, and emerging market segments.

- Lead full-cycle BD: lead generation, presentations, negotiation, conversion, and onboarding.

- Maintain strong long-term relationships with key accounts to ensure repeat business.

- Conduct regular client meetings, performance reviews, and business planning sessions.

- Assess customer requirements and align with internal capability, cost, and timelines.

- Guide customers on product selection, formulation feasibility, and regulatory requirements.

- Support addition of new SKUs, new dosage forms, and capacity planning as per market demand.

- Finalize pricing, MOQs, packaging specifications, and commercial terms.

- Coordinate with costing, finance, and production teams to ensure commercially viable proposals.

- Monitor profitability, margins, and overall P&L health of the BD vertical.

- Work closely with plants, QA/QC, production planning, logistics, and procurement teams.

- Ensure timely order execution, dispatch planning, quality compliance, and customer satisfaction.

- Troubleshoot operational bottlenecks and ensure smooth customer servicing.

- Track competitor activities, pricing trends, new product launches, and regulatory changes.

- Develop business strategies, annual BD plans, segment-wise growth roadmap.

- Suggest capacity enhancements, new product opportunities, and strategic partnerships.

- Review client agreements, LOIs, quality agreements, and commercial documentation.

- Ensure adherence to regulatory, statutory, and quality standards in all BD processes.

- Coordinate audits, client visits, regulatory support as required.

- Lead and mentor BD team members across domestic and third-party verticals.

- Set KPIs, performance metrics, client acquisition targets, and monitoring dashboards.

- Train the team on communication, negotiation, and technical understanding of products.

Expected Performance & Deliverables

- Achievement of quarterly and annual BD revenue targets.

- Consistent growth of customer base and active business volume.

- On-time delivery and high customer satisfaction scores.

- Improved profitability through strategic negotiation and optimized costing.

- Efficient coordination leading to reduced TAT for proposals, approvals, and order execution.

- Strategic expansion of the domestic CDMO portfolio and capability pipeline.

Candidate Profile

- Minimum 10-18 years of experience in pharma BD, third-party manufacturing, domestic marketing, or CDMO operations.

- Strong network with domestic pharma companies and third-party clients.

- Excellent communication, negotiation, costing, and analytical skills.

- Leadership qualities with ability to manage cross-functional teams.

- Proven ability to deliver BD targets and manage P&L responsibilities.
