Business Relationship Management -Information Technology (IT)

Job Summary:


- The Business Relationship Management function has the mandate to establish and maintaining a relationship between IT and the business, and to increase the value realized from IT assets, investments, and capabilities.

- The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is responsible for understanding the business, assisting in the prioritization of projects, ensuring that projects align with the technology that provides maximum return on investment, and directing IT strategy in support of the overall business strategy. The BRM is a liaison between IT and the business units, and a trusted advisor to the business units.

Primary Duties or Responsibilities:

- Develop and manage the relationship between IT and internal and external partners (business units, service providers).Develop technology strategies that align within the overall business strategy;

- Design Solution Architecture of the business platforms to automate, digitize business processes.

- Ensure the business units understand the technology solution, overall solution delivery, and compliance to governance processes, architecture standards, etc.

- Prepare cost-benefit analyses for projects and assist business stakeholders in prioritizing projects submitted to the application governance councils. Work with stakeholders and project teams to prioritize requirements (within projects on applications);

- Develop recommendation for joint or coordinated application project delivery across business units in collaboration with other business units;

- Research, review, analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes, and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes; and

- Participate in the IT annual budgeting and planning process for the assigned business units, and tracks IT spend.

- Participate in trials and the piloting of new tools; provide appropriate support and expertise in testing procedures and the development of appropriate testing standards, testing and distribution, implementation and reporting; tracking and project planning support;

- Provide support and solutions for the integration of individual systems as well as to ensure a level of interoperability when required;

- Design and maintain a framework which guides all information systems integration and development, and a methodology which provides effective and responsible information management practices; and

- Define and sustain change control procedures which discipline the applications development process, ensuring that adjustments to client requirements are effectively rationalized and, when approved, adequately funded.

- As required, manage project teams and working groups; identify requirements, chair meetings, set objectives and goals and timetables; monitor and evaluate the quality, accuracy and outcome of work;

- Monitor expenditures and resources utilization, analyse resources issues and problems and develop alternative resourcing approaches and prepare ad-hoc reports.

- Participate in the development of operating and capital budgets; conduct strategic, risk and/or contingency planning analyses and prepare budget forecasts for ongoing support and renewal and for major projects; identify and choose the most cost-effective solutions that will meet overall service objectives;

- Researches, designs, plans and initiates new or enhanced IT services; identifies/solicits and evaluates business requirements, or responds to client requests; and manages the information architectural design

- Maintains regular communications on project updates, adoption and ROI realization

- Plans, creates and conducts presentations to staff and partners on technological trends and developments;

- Indirect supervision of project teams and consultants.

- Responsible to manage vendor (product) support staff that may be called in to resolve product support issues. Responsible to monitor and approve work upon completion and ensure deliverables are met.

Job Scope:

- As such, the manager needs to have significant knowledge in subject matters pertaining to both IT and the business, and must have a thorough understanding of the business to identify its needs and envisage business solutions.

- BRM both enables and drives a proactive business-level dialogue and a performance management approach that is focused on maintaining a service culture and delivering value.

- BRM forms the basis for measuring, communicating and improving IT organization value, both real and perceived. This drives optimization of the return on the organizations IT investment.

- Without an effective BRM role, the organization risks not attaining efficient use of its technology systems.

- Readily available functionalities could be ignored at the expense of staff time or expensive workarounds.

- A sound understanding of the business and the systems mitigates that risk and bridges the gap between technology and business needs.
