Profiling for SVP / VP - Port Operations.

Profile of the Incumbent

- Be an effective strategist and a dynamic leader with strong conceptual, planning, co-ordination and implementation skills.

- Good communication, inter personal, co-ordination and problem solving skills with the ability to work in multi cultural environment.

- Very good at man-management and team building.

- Excellent record of successfully handling of Port operations

- An energetic, self-motivated leader with hands on experience in preparing reports to obtain various clearances and approvals from different expert committees / agencies / institutions / departments.

- Must be able to head all the operations and engineering activities of the port.

- Must work in close coordination with consultants, partners, the government and non-government agencies.

- Must be adept at project procurement process, including preparing detailed techno-economic feasibility report, project structuring, preparation of bid documents / concession agreements, invitation of bids, their evaluation and selection of suitable developer for a project.

- Should be very effective in interacting with technical, financial and legal consultants in the process of procurement.

- Provide external supporting infrastructure, such as –road / rail connectivity / water / power supply and other utilities for the port.

- Provide inputs for planning and designing of the dedicated water supply scheme for the port, including intake well, treatment plant, conveyance pipe lines, storage tanks etc.

- Well versed in HR, IR and CSR practices.

Educational Qualifications:

- Post Graduate in Management with Engineering qualifications or Master Mariner with vast experience in Port / Marine / Shipping / Logistics industry.

- Pre-Requisites for the Ideal Profile

Industry Preference: PSU Major Ports or Private Ports / Port Operations / Logistics.

Critical Experience:

- Must have experience in Operations of mid size /large ports ( PSU / Private )

- Must have at least 10 years of leadership experience in a role of VP & above.

- Strong Leadership qualities & personality on interacting with local government bodies /Industry bodies/Statutory Bodies

- Should have experience and in depth knowledge of various types of ships, like cargo, bulk, container, oil tankers etc.

- Should be fully conversant with safety of port, cargo, ships and personnel.

- Should have good knowledge of cargo handling equipments, cargo storage and port regulations.

Age between 45 to 50 Years.

Job Responsibilities

Port Operations:

- Head the complete Operational activity of a Multi-commodity commercial Port

- Responsible for Operational planning

- Reduce Vessel turnaround time and Evacuation of cargo from berth.

- Meet the Customers requirements.

- Streamline Operations and improve Efficiency

- Responsible for handling operational handling targets

- Effective Warehouse Utilization

- Logistics: Road and Railway transportation of Cargo.

Marine Operations:

- Improve Navigational Safety, Security to vessels, environmental and all clearances from concerned authorities.

Environment, Health & Safety :

- Frequent safety audits & compulsory safety related training at all employee levels

- Dust Control mechanisms and Additional High Dust screens, Sprinklers at all plots. Cont. air monitoring stations with alarms etc.

- Review Operating procedures , documentation and continuous improvement of QMS, EMS and OHSAS systems

- Establish the management system, establish and enforce of the rules and regulations, ensuring the organization planning progress, quality, safety and cost control.

Engineering:

- Repair and Maintenance of all assets which includes spares planning and management

- Entire gamut of mechanical & electrical asset maintenance which includes equipment planning and usage of equipments including harbor mobile cranes etc.

- Analyzing Equipments performance reports at regular intervals and taking necessary corrective action

HR, CSR, PR & Local Issues:

- Cordial relationship with local community, Conducting PR activities and CSR Initiatives.

- Effective practices and systems on HR and Administration at port site.

- Establish and maintain the brand image, establishing good community relations, and ensure a good operation environment.

- Promote the company culture towards providing excellent client satisfaction. Lead and organize cross functional and cross organization teams and processes to promote achievements and quality of services.

Customer centric:

- Develop key performance indicators and service level agreements with clients/government

- Conceptualize and implement customer feedback system, which would result in sustained focus on customer satisfaction and expectations.

Processes & Systems:

- Create Management Information Systems, budgeting and cost control, tendering, exposed to work with computerized maintenance management systems.

- Establish world-class quality audits.

- Conduct periodic and random field inspections to ensure the service teams adhere to the contract and commitment to the client.

- Ensuring that all programs and procedures are followed, develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs.

Efficiency & Productivity:

- Preparation of budget. Monitoring monthly cost with budgeted cost. Weekly and monthly meeting with Department Heads, areas of improvement, cost reducing methods, expenditure compared to operating budget, service back logs, etc.

- Reduction of operating costs & increasing productivity

- Implemented model of multiskilled natural work groups

- Reviewing of design details of services, coordination with consultants, etc
