Job Description:

The BAU functions within Transaction Management & Operations are managed under six specialist service groups:

- Reconciliations and Ledger Integrity

- COO

Transaction Management & Operations is a global function centred in London with significant presence across all business regions, in particular in North America, APAC and India with both hub and onshore presence which includes:

- Multi-functional teams in business centres in the US (Stamford and Chicago) and APAC (Singapore and Japan)

- Near shore centres in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Manchester in the UK and Warsaw in Poland

- Offshore centres of expertise in India in Chennai and Gurgaon

Transaction Management & Operations Overview

Transaction Management & Operations (TMO) is a newly formed department within Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) Services to manage transaction integrity and operational support front to back for all capital markets transactions globally. With the interconnected nature of the business activities and technology estate TMO teams will continue to manage a mix of transactions covering business activity undertaken by both CIB.

Team Overview

- This role, reporting to the India TMO India Risk and Control Head, will be responsible for MO Services robustness including governance.

- The role holder will be required to work in close partnership with the respective line teams to monitor, assess, report and analyse controls, resultant risk issues, trends and governance process. The role holder will also have dotted line reporting to Director MO, R&C in London. The role holder will be working with senior stakeholders in London and hence requires high level of interpersonal skills, technical expertise and high amount of energy and drive to manage key stakeholders.

- The candidate will be expected to draw upon their industry knowledge and professional experience and expertise to achieve the right balance of - challenging- line management and staff to ensure operational risk is proactively managed. As a trusted advisor the candidate will need to provide an impartial assessment and independent guidance, based on best practices, to a variety of risk and governance related topics. This role will also include liaising with risk and control professionals across all functions, Operational Risk (2LoD) and Audit (3LoD).

Role specifics

- The Middle Office group is accountable for transaction data quality, lifecycle management and immediate post trade controls including daily Profit and Loss (P&L) and month-end Balance Sheet Reporting, seamless transaction affirmation/confirmation & settlement with our clients

- Undertake a comprehensive review of Middle Office Function (MO) business process and products with in TMO. This will include business areas such as FI & Credit, Internals, Flow Rates- Transaction Control, Flow Rates- Trader Control, Currencies.

- Demonstrate expertise in audit/review of trader level reconciliation, Trade Life Cycle and strong understanding of derivative products.

- Work in close partnership with the line team and provide challenge and independent assurance on strategic issues with minimal involvement of R&C Director.

- Review and Challenge the completeness of RACA Suites.

- Ensure Quarterly attestation and reporting is appropriate and clear.

- Track and perform RCA on all risk issues in partnership with Line teams.

- Define and embed a clear and consistent governance process for the opening, amendment/management and closure of all RACA controls with the Global RACA/Controls centralized team

- Develop and deliver specific training to Risk Managers and Line Teams as required

- Define and embed a consistent and independent quality assurance (- QA- ) process

- Build and deliver reporting for teams with quarterly views, trending and QA failings and other key attributes as determined by the TMO Risk & Control leadership.

- Deliver consistently improving delta/metrics as part of MCA 2 plan.

- Undertake detailed thematic reviews and root cause analysis against test results and top of house risks.

Essential Experience: (Must have skills)

- Chartered Accountant Background required along with relevant Industry experience in MO Function.

- Expert in Internal Audits, External Audits, someone preferably from Big 4 environment having an in depth knowledge of the Middle Office Function. The candidate should be from investment banking background within the remit of the role & experience in a front-line business group or second-line challenge function and processes.

- Minimum of 12 to 14 years of experience in similar background. Candidate must have spent at least 6 to 8 years in a similar role with financial institutions and demonstrate strong track record of MO experience.

- Ability to simplify complex and conflicting tasks and policy positions, ensuring these are effectively managed and communicated

- Appreciation of regulation, understanding of risk components; operational, regulatory, reputational, market & financial.

- Expert knowledge of CIB clients, products, markets and processing environments.

- Experienced risk management professional with experience of developing and implementing effective risk management approaches and having a solid track record of dealing with senior leadership teams. Someone who has firm grip on global risk issues and challenges related to MO.

- A broad understanding of the Group's Regulatory and Compliance framework, regulation and policies, and of the external regulatory environment.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and deliver to deadlines.

- Ability to work effectively and engagingly with various teams (Business heads and line teams) and across all businesses, control and support areas of the Bank.

- The candidate must have managed team of minimum 6 to 8 members and demonstrate leadership skills as the candidate is expected to manage a team of 3 to 4 members.
