Description of the Department :

Lending Operations, Chennai an integral part of RBS's Global Operations is a best in class team that delivers professional, cost effective and timely operational support and client service to the bank's Investment Banking Loans business. The Lending operations team provides operational support across a diversified and vibrant range of loan products using best in class systems. The team is responsible for :

- The execution of all aspects of loan servicing including loan drawdowns, rollovers, repayments, fee and interest processing and reconciliation of all cashflows

- Interaction with the Middle Office and/or clients/ agents to ensure the timely and accurate processing of all life cycle events

- Working closely with the business, middle office and other internal/external functions, providing expertise in loan servicing to ensure all operations related to lending are structured and processed in an effective and controlled manner

Description of the Role :

Key Role Deliverables :

- Managing operations and business delivery for the loan portfolio in a stable and controlled environment.

- Managing the key performance indicators and key risk indicators of the business. Establishing standards of performances in agreement with the business.

- Initiating process improvements. Focus on improvements in service quality, control environment and cost rationalization.

- Creating a culture of strong matrix driven performance management.

- Managing large teams. Ability to coach/ mentor high performers.

- Ability to create and manage relationships across functions and geographies.

Departmental Management :

- Responsible for the day to day management of the Lending team. Key escalation point for query resolution and issue management.

- Responsible for managing Lending operations teams and resources to ensure services levels are maintained.

- Responsible for deliveries of key areas of the bank's operational objectives in the areas of people management, service quality, value and operational risk.

- Responsible for building teams, staff morale and coaching and mentoring high performers.

- Responsible for the KPI's and KRI's of the team.

- Responsible for proactive management of relationships with business partners/ treasury/ Middle Offices.

Controls :

- Responsible for ensuring that the Bank's controls strategies (including SOX), policies and standards are implemented appropriately.

- Assists Head of Lending Operations in defining and implementing a framework to ensure control is maintained in the management of loan life cycle events across Lending Operations.

- Is responsible to the implementation and management of Lending Operation control framework within Lending, ensuring the department manages the controls within defined key risk indications (KRI- s)

- Work with Business Management and Control to ensure these controls meet audit standards

- Responsible for incident management, investigation, documentation of GNEP's and remedial actions plans are developed and implemented

Service Quality :

- Ensures delivery of customer service to the highest standards

- Manages and drives improvements in productivity and efficiency using appropriate efficiency metrics (KPIs)

- Acts as a point of escalation of any issue resolution and communicates with central teams if assistance is required

Team Development :

- Set and review objectives with direct reports ensuring that they are carried out in line with GBM's Performance Management.

- Provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring where appropriate.

- Resolve any organisational and staffing problems and perform HR tasks in regard to the managers and staff directly under your command.

- Recruit and retain the highest quality talent into the lending team.

- Demonstrate a proactive approach to all activities and create the environment for others to emulate this behaviour.

- Develop a breadth of knowledge across the team in order to provide as required, support/assistance to other teams.

- Where necessary, share knowledge and provide appropriate training, guidance or coaching for the team.

Knowledge & Experience :

The following experience is relevant to the role :

- 8-10 years experience in operations across a range of teams in an international Bank/Financial institution.

- Broad experience of international banking environments and markets.

- Management of an Operations/Middle Office department or similar environment.

- Deep understanding of lending transactions (preferably syndicated) and associated documentation including operational experience in taking lending transactions through all aspects of their lifecycle.

- Proven ability to build, maintain and enhance relationships at all levels including interacting effectively with key GBM Support areas (Technology, Finance, HR, etc).

- Proven track record of delivering results.

- Excellent communicator at all levels with good presentation and negotiation skills.

- Ability to create a culture that will facilitate productivity and ensure quality/ change management.

- Proven experience of liaising with global stakeholders

- Self driven and ability to work fairly independently.

- Knowledge of Industry regulatory, compliance and best practices.

- Project experience.
