Vice President/Head - Engineering

Job Description :

- Talent Monitor is working with a leading health-tech startup that is building customer-first full-stack solutions to solve the health and wellness needs of the Indian consumer. The startup is backed by top tier VCs.

- The startup is looking for a VP & Head Engineering to be based in Mumbai, someone who would work closely with the founders, strategize, lead and execute the tech charter for the startup.

Key Responsibilities :

- Understand business priorities and create a long-term Technology / Product Engineering roadmap for the Organization and drive its implementation

- Build and lead a high performing team of technology architects and engineers that ship highly scalable, world class products

- Mentor and develop the team to bolster the in-house technology capability

- Build a product roadmap, and lead product development end-to-end from technology architecture, development to testing within agreed timeframes

- Stay abreast with latest tools, software, technology, select and deploy the right tools, techniques and processes to help the engineering team do their work faster

- Solve technology problems effectively by taking first principles approach and being hands on

- Manage inhouse development, identify and integrate third party service providers, identify and negotiate partnerships with other technology vendors

- Benchmark with top technology companies and innovate continuously at a breakneck speed to ensure delivery of work class, second to none products

- Partner with Product, Operations, and other stakeholders to cater to business needs

- Represent the startup in external forums/ bodies, create a strong visibility for the organization, and help in creating a strong employer brand

Key requirements :

- Engineering graduate/post graduate, preferably in Computer Science, from a reputed university

- 8-15 years of product development experience, with 2-4 years in a managerial capacity.

- Experience of working in large consumer and/or b2b tech company in an open source environment is preferred

- Analytical skills to solve problems in a dynamic and an ambiguous start-up environment

- Experience of building teams of 20-30 engineers ground up, mentoring, coaching and rewarding team members so as to bring out the best in them

- Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, OO designs, TDD, defensive programming, REST APIs, microservices, GraphQL.

- Deep knowledge of one of the programming languages Java, Python or Node.js

- Experience of creating and managing high throughput APIs

- Knowledge of frameworks like Angular, React with a strong understanding of Android and iOS app ecosystem

- Should have experience on Mobile / Web, SaaS, Cloud Native Architecture, products using Azure/ AWS/Google.

- Should have knowledge and experience of NoSQL Database, RDBMS, UML, Object Modeling, Multi-tenant architecture, and Design Patterns.

- Experience with DevOps - AWS, CI/CD, Dockers and Containers to build systems that are highly scalable and available

- Stronger communication, influencing and networking skills

- Seniority and gravitas to lead an engineering function and manage multiple stakeholders

- Project Management skills to ensure delivery within timelines

- Good understanding of mobile ecosystem & Indian ecommerce is desirable
