Opening for VP- Data Engineering for a renowned company. Implement data strategy for company, manage data support required for all types of reporting- financial, management, IRDA etc., drive on-time development and deployment of all data requirements, lead a team of business analysts to support business requirement capture for projects related to data and analytics, act as a subject matter expert for IT and data architecture requirements and manage special requirements from senior stakeholders with respect to data management. In this role, he will be responsible for strategy development, Practice management, Business & technology consulting. And he will be responsible for setting up and building Data Engineering practice, focusing on multi-cloud data services, solutioning development, competency development and data pipeline management. 1. Data strategy and planning : - Participate in discussions during Long Range Plan (LRP) and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) formulation at the department-level, to provide inputs and understand data strategy objectives and investments required - Provide inputs to the data strategy based on business-user expectations and IT/ technology strategy - Receive finalized budget based on considerations proposed and allocate for multiple initiatives planned, monitoring consumption through the year 2. Project management : - Participate in discussions with functional owners to understand requirements and formulate milestone-based project plans - Application Solutioning: Based on business requirement and needs solution designing and architecture and performance tuning, code review - Allocate projects to Team Lead based on workload/ skill-sets, and ensure estimation of effort and finalization of DOD (Date of Delivery) - Oversee completion of development, unit testing and code review by the team, within decided timelines, managing timeline and quality escalations if any - Coordinate with testing team to ensure all tests are completed, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT) involving dedicated team of functional users and Smoke testing - Verify completion of development and testing, and obtain approvals as required, before release for deployment - Maintain and monitor tracker across all projects, conducting periodic reviews with the team to ensure on-time and successful completion 3. Data Reporting Support : - Data Modeler: Design data structures, understand source systems and functionality, design facts and dimensions - Understand data formats, fields and structures associated with various standard and ad-hoc reporting requirements for functions across company - Drive mining of data and conduct descriptive analytics as required, to prepare data reports in requisite formats and share it with relevant users - Ensure all financial checklists are adhered to while support data requests for financial reporting - Ensure data integration between multiple sources of data, and ensure data accuracy 4. Business Analyst and other accountabilities : - For all data and analytics projects, provide BA support through team members, to help functional owners capture requirements that can be converted to IT specifications - Drive special projects and data requests (such as data format requests from CEO), ensuring all development is aligned with modified structures - Participate in discussions related to future-state IT and data architecture and opportunities for improvement, in the capacity of a subject matter expert - Guide team members who play the role of technical account managers to specific function(s). 5. Team development : - Conduct knowledge transfer/ training for team members, on relevant technologies/ platforms/ domain skills - Participate in recruitment process to identify the right talent for various positions within the function - Establish individual performance expectations and evaluation metrics, and regularly review individual performance - Identify and create development opportunities for team members to enhance functional knowledge. Education and Work Experience : - BTECH-IT or CS/ MCA - Overall 15+ years of experience - 10+ years of hand on experience in Data Engineering and Data Analytics - 5+ years of experience in programming, Database, and any Cloud platform - Experience in Insurance industry having managed Insurance applications - Experience in contributing to engineering designs and architectural decisions - Hands-on LLD and HLD - Strong verbal and written communication skills, impeccable organizational and time management skills - Agile, proactive, comfortable working with ambiguous specifications - In-depth experience in IT and project management - Experience in team management - Experience in data warehousing, application development and data architecture. Note: Insurance background candidates preferred.
