The idea and its origins: - Jigar, who lives with his family in a village in Kalol, Gujarat, could not walk or talk at 2 years. His parents struggled to manage his temper tantrums and self-biting. At home, he lay on his mat all day, not responding when they tried to talk to him or play. Although Jigar's mother had travelled for many hours to visit multiple doctors, none of them could improve the situation or even explain what was wrong with Jigar. - In Jigar's case, where doctors failed, Manisha a Child Development Aide trained at Ummeed stepped in and supported. Manisha works in the community where Jigar and his family stay. Slowly and steadily, she built trust with Jigar's mother and the family. Through play, she gradually worked on stimulating his development. Now, Jigar is able to stand and walk. He attends the local anganwadi and is included in the games the pre-schoolers play there. When Manisha visits, he runs out to greet her. Manisha has now started an - early intervention center- in the community, with guidance from the Ummeed team. - Jigar's story is not unique. India has over 50 million children with disabilities or at risk of disabilities, under the age of 15. While some disabilities such as Down Syndrome are visible, others like autism and learning disability are invisible. - Life can be difficult anywhere for children with disabilities - they get poor healthcare, are more likely to be out of school, are more likely to be bullied, and rarely get included in leisure and fun activities that all children should have access to. Things are worse in India because there is an 82% shortfall of paediatricians in community health centres, the ratio of rehabilitation professionals compared to children with disability is just 1:353, and most teachers feel unable to support inclusion in the school setting since they have not received training in special education. - At the same time, there is overwhelming evidence to show that when children with disabilities get access to appropriate medical and education services as well as recreation, they can meaningfully participate in activities at home, school, and community, and become productive members of the society. - Ummeed was founded by Dr. Vibha Krishnamurthy in 2001 with the vision to help children with and at risk of developmental disabilities reach their full potential and be included in society. It is working to tackle several of the above issues at a systemic level. - Ummeed's started its journey through its clinic, offering evidence based, culturally relevant, multi-disciplinary services to children and families experiencing developmental disabilities, using the principles of family centered care, strengths based approaches, and awareness of the biopsychosocial model of disability. Each year, about 1100-1200 children receive direct services at Ummeed. - A few years into its journey, Ummeed faced the question of scale - should it build more clinics, or should it focus on training and capacity building as a pathway to create more resources? Ummeed played to its strengths and chose the latter path; thus began its training journey.&nbsp; - Ummeed's training services have now expanded to span courses ranging from awareness workshops and short-term skill-building workshops to long-term training programs for doctors, therapists, teachers, community workers, parents, and children. A key milestone was opening the Ummeed Training Facility in 2017. Every year, Ummeed provides training to nearly 1500 stakeholders and sensitizing nearly 5000 people from across the country and even from overseas; some programs are face to face; others are run online, to enable reach to a wider audience. Through these efforts, Ummeed's indirect reach is about 2,50,000 children and families. - Ummeed's clinic and training efforts are complimented by awareness efforts that aim to change societal attitudes towards children with disabilities; and research efforts to engage with and influence the academic community. About the Position - Manager/ Senior Manager, Training Services: - Ummeed's current Training Facility is located in Parel. The Training Facility and the associated team enable Ummeed's diverse professionals (developmental pediatricians, autism intervention specialists, counsellors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, special educators, and others) to continually grow the scale and scope of their training impact, while holding on to high standards of quality and values such as adult learning principles. Beyond the traditional F2F training formats (at site or off-site), Ummeed has actively started leveraging online training options such as ECHO. We are also in the process of rolling out a Training Management System. - The Manager/ Senior Manager, Training Services position is a key role that works closely with the Head - Training Services in operationalizing the training strategy, liaising with various training teams to ensure that training preparation/ delivery/ follow up are coordinated and seamless, partnering with shared services teams in ensuring processes for training are collaborative, ensuring accurate data capture and analysis, and ensuring that the voices of children, families, and trainees are incorporated in the Training Facility's services. Roles and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Manager/ Senior Manager, Training Services include but are not be limited to: - Operations management of Training goals and priorities - Co-think goals and future priorities with Head - Training Services - Think through and implement operations and processes for these goals and priorities, including getting buy-in from key stakeholders - Track and report progress - Implement and maintain day-to-day operations of the Training Facility to ensure optimum utilization of Training resources, without compromising Ummeed's values - this includes processes for registration, attendance, post-session feedback and questionnaires, repeat participants and their tracking, partner organizations, communications, online trainings through ECHO, etc. - Work closely with the Monitoring &amp; Evaluation (M&amp;E) team to ensure accurate and up-to-date data regarding trainees, partner organizations, feedback, Kirkpatrick model of evaluation, room utilization, and any others as required by the monitoring and evaluation team - Support implementation and adoption of the Training Management System across the organization, including change management processes - Manage/ support the implementation of the relevant research and awareness activities related to Training - Manage the Training Facilities team - hiring, coaching, mentoring, supporting, career growth - Be aware of Training funding status and support donor management and engagement such as providing inputs for proposals and donor reports as well as supporting donor visits - Work closely with shared services teams such as HR, IT, Admin to ensure seamless operations for Training - Implement ways for incorporating the feedback and inputs of trainees, children and families in Ummeed's Training services Reporting into: Chief Operating Officer (solid line reporting) and Head-Training Services (dotted line reporting) Minimum qualifications, Skills required: - The applicant must have 5-7 years work experience, with at least 2 years of project management (or similar) experience in the not-for-profit sector or relevant corporate sector, in the training/ learning and development function. Given the nature of the work, the person must be passionate about working in the social sector and willing to learn.
