Times Internet - Editor in Chief - Business Insider India

Times Bridge is seeking someone to build and lead the editorial strategy for Business Insider in India. An enormous part of this role will be establishing a culture of news excellence within Times Bridge. We are not journalists who hang out at the press club, regaling in our own brilliance. We immerse with our topics. We are public servants. We nurture our stories and then engage with our users while they engage with us. Our obsession is courageous, unique, and high quality coverage.

Another critical component of this role will be commissioning and executing world class reporting projects. These projects should span format and medium - the constantly evolving digital landscape means that the Editor in Chief should constantly be experimenting with storytelling possibilities. Anything from augmented reality to citizen reporting via social media to creating a one-off print publication - the Editor in Chief doesn- t mind breaking things. The editorial agenda set by the Editor in Chief should reflect an acumen for understanding the market and the Business Insider brand. It should not be yet another interpretation of the already well-established news cycle.

The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial by nature with unrelenting vision, an insatiable hunger to create and exceptional skill managing and launching editorial projects. He/she will be equally comfortable working independently (writing copy, publishing content online, engaging with users over the lifetime of a story) and building and leading a team. Flexibility juggling multiple roles with ease is a must: the editor in chief will simultaneously act as writer, editor, project manager, CEO, strategist, photographer, and interviewer. Frequent domestic travel to cover developing stories and to meet editorial strategy goals will be a part of this role.

Some Key Responsibilities :

- Formulate and execute on a - Business Insider in India- strategy in consultation with the Times Bridge Head of Content Strategy.

- Forcefully enter and direct the zeitgeist - through media appearances, articles, and more.

- Ensure both business and editorial success of Business Insider India.

- Lead the Times Bridge relationship with the Business Insider leadership in New York.

- Recruit India's best creative talent to build a world-class team of editorial visionaries.

- Build bridges within the Times Group to build the Business Insider India brand and effectively harness the horsepower of India's largest media company for advancement of Times Bridge and Business Insider goals.

- Build a creative execution process that can scale rapidly and efficiently.

Desired Skills and Experience :

- While years of experience in the industry is a good indicator of the right qualities needed for this role, that in itself is not strictly required. The right candidate will be a personality and spiritual fit for the role in addition to checking many if not all of the experience boxes.

- 8-10 years experience leading editorial teams.

- 4-5 years experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders on tight deadlines.

- Fluency in the web and comfort with data so that a new CMS, maybe a little bit of HTML or CSS, and an enormous dataset on voter turnout are all equally unintimidating.

- Versatility in being able to both an inspiring leader and a diligent follower and knowing when each skill is required.

- Exceptional writing and editing ability with a fluency in global English.

- Calm and composed under pressure.

- Ability to be an industry leader and accumulate accolades for outstanding work while avoiding the accumulation of excessive ego.

- Exceptional creative ability with a portfolio of published work in leading global publications. This could take the form of writing, video, design, radio, web, or, ideally, a combination of several.

- Industry recognition for outstanding contribution to their field.
