Merchandiser need to have drive, resilience and self-motivation along with numerical skills. A large part of the job is analysing the figures derived by other team members. Strategic thinking should sure compliment analytical skills. He/She needs to make decisions about how the products should be sold in, how much stock should be placed on orders and whether a product should be restocked. He/She needs to understand the numbers and then forecast and make recommendations accordingly.
Typical responsibilities of the job include:
- Working closely with buyers and other team members to plan product ranges
- Maintaining a good reputation with Brand partners (Intl and Local) + Eco System
- Managing budgets
- Affinity for working with numbers and analysis
- Predicting sales and profits
- Negotiating quantities and delivery time-scales
- Supervising the Pre-Shipment and Post shipment activities with complete charge
- The ability to use database and spreadsheet software
- Handling supply/production problems as they arise
- Setting stock promotions/price reductions as appropriate
- Making financial presentations to senior managers
- Assessing sales performance of different ranges
