Sun Mobility - Lead - Mechanical - Smart Battery Segment

Good understanding of mechanical, thermal as well as electrical engineering principals as well as an experience of end-to-end new product development from a product concept ideation stage to launching the same to market.

Roles and Responsibilities :

1. Detailed system-level study of the battery pack and its features

2. Product level system design including Mechanical, Structural, Battery interconnect, Thermal, Safety & allied systems

3. Work & collaborate with Cross-functional teams of mechanical, electrical, System, Hardware, thermal, manufacturing, Validation & BD .

4. Split the work content, delegate to the team and team mentoring.

5. Battery pack structural design, requirement calculations

6. Mechanical integration of battery cells, electromechanical components, and hardware.

5. Develop verification, test, and validation plans

6. Work with safety, reliability, operations, and other cross-functional teams to integrate the battery into the final system.

7. Good understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerance.

8. Supplier management during the pack architecture development and during pack builds.

9. Support the final assembly to ensure proper integration of the battery into the final system.

10. Rigorous failure analysis, root cause analysis, corrective action, and communication to the cross functional teams on issues.

11. Battery related product development cycles from Concept design to manufacture.

12. To define the structural and thermal simulation requirements for 3rd party vendors.

Skills and knowledge required :

1. 10 -15 years of mechanical engineering experience in the battery/ automotive field and pack designing.

2. Knowledge of Li-ion cell chemistry & formats and the various needs for packaging the same.

3. Knowledge of automotive product development process

3. Experience with battery protection modules and safety standards.

4. Experience in battery pack interconnection design, thermal management, and safety.

5. Proficiency in conceptual and detailed mechanical design and extensive 3D CAD experience.

6. Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes and/or automation is highly desirable.

7. Experience with the full life cycle of product development processes.

8. Experience in Sheet metal and plastic components - Concept to manufacture.

9. Experience in vendor qualification and selection process

10. Expertise in design for the following production process: injection moulding (plastics), extrusion (plastic or aluminium), metal stamping, die castings, sheet metal and weldments

11. Experience/ detailing the following areas: Static & dynamic mechanical analysis, fatigue analysis, mechanics, thermo-mechanical analysis, impact/shock/vibration, multi-scale-multi-domain modelling, CFD, electrical/thermal FE

12. Design & sizing of Cooling systems like liquid cooling / HVAC systems, interface systems etc.
