You will design and implement cutting-edge engineering solutions with company-wide impact and visibility. You will take a role in building and scaling our worldwide Web Services and Tools; for teams like our Content Management, Computational Marketing (SEM, SEO, CRM), Goods Technology, Global Travel Technology, Smart Deals, Tools, e-mail and others. We are looking for Software Development Managers at all levels across these groups and are looking to fill multiple positions.

As a Senior Software Development Manager, you will utilize strong management practices (both tactical and strategic) to develop product strategies and operationalize them. You will lead strategic initiatives; provide direction and leadership to managers, engineers and product managers focused on building products and systems to support Groupon globally.

The Chennai development center has a diverse charter ranging from development of international sales optimization tools to large scale data collection systems. You will be responsible for resource allocation, technology roadmaps, quality, time-to-market and backlog prioritization. You will take a leading role in building and scaling our worldwide technology platform.

We are looking for someone who:

- Will set the overall vision, goals, direction for the team and oversee the performance of the entire team

- Is passionate about recruiting and inspires top development talent to join the team

- Is flexible and adaptable, and can reorganize resources to meet changing needs

- Can mentor, motivate, and foster innovation in team members

- Can build partnerships with internal teams across a global geography, external partners and business partners to optimize delivery

- Is highly technical and hands on - can guide architectural decisions and is enthusiastic about diving into code

Requirements:

- Has experience building teams of 20+ developers, test engineers, managers, principal engineers and project managers

- 10+ years of experience in software design and development

- Expertise in web technologies, scalable systems, and data infrastructure

- Strong understanding of instrumenting and optimizing software to maximize business metrics

- BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

- 7+ years managing software development teams

- Ruby and Java experience a plus

- Knowledge in data mining and machine learning is a plus.

- Experience shipping distributed and scalable solutions to the market

- Take initiative when needed

- Excellent communication skills
