Job description

Purpose Summary :-

The key areas of responsibility for the Senior Development Manager include:

Principal Responsibilities

Software Product Development

- To be responsible for providing management and direction for the product Development Team and to formulate and implement the product vision that supports the overall Causeway technology vision, ensuring that new products are innovative and Causeway maintains a competitive edge in the marketplace.

- To provide technical leadership and manage the team so that all aspects of software design and development meet the highest quality standards to deliver or exceed customer expectations in terms of functionality, quality, technology and overall customer experience.

- To ensure that the processes for carrying out software development are based upon recognised best practice standards and to support the achievement of quality and methodology certifications to support this.

- To ensure that rigorous Project Management is implemented on all development projects so that project scope, change, time, quality, cost and risk are tightly controlled.

- To support the creation and maintenance of the product roadmap, including short, medium and long term development, to ensure that the product continues to be a relevant and forward looking product in the marketplace.

- To work in accordance with the agreed R&D Management process to ensure consistency, quality and efficiency of execution and the delivery of high quality products.

- To design and prototype all aspects of the software product plans, ensuring that development follows the appropriate methodology, coding standards and quality expected from a leading edge development team.

- To manage the Product Development Team to ensure that they deliver high quality software that has a low defect rate and is inexpensive for Causeway to maintain and support.

- To ensure that product development requirements are captured and documented effectively to provide clear and concise information to the development process and to improve the efficiency of the development lifecycle.

- To be responsible for gathering requirements for current and future product development within the team, including requirements from customers or other parts of the business to ensure that the product remains competitive.

- To ensure that the necessary planning and processes are in place to remove all single point dependencies within the Product Development Team.

- To work with the Programme Management team and QA / Release teams to ensure that all development follows the required processes and quality control.

- To provide appropriate input and clarification for the QA / Testing team to support the effective completion of QA assignments and to ensure that product release documentation is produced to support the process.

- To work with the CTO / EVP Technology to ensure that the necessary planning and processes are in place to remove / wrap all legacy code and replace underlying dependencies upon third party software from within Causeway software products.

- To work with the CTO / EVP Technology to ensure that the necessary planning and processes are in place so that all Causeway software is wrapped with Web Services such that it can operate in a true Service Oriented Architecture.

- To support the business in strategic, sales led, technical and product integration developments to ensure the Causeway product range provides the most effective level of functionality to customers.

- To ensure that the Product Development Team plans and executes tasks in order to meet product and technology roadmaps in terms of scope, quality, cost and timescales, identifying issues and correcting as required.

- To provide software design guidance to the Development Team, including architecture, performance, usability considerations, and maintenance considerations ensuring that high quality products are produced and maintained.

- To work with the Support team to help manage the process of prioritising and processing product development requests to ensure that an effective level of quality is maintained for both business and customer.

- To provide product expertise, knowledge transfer and assistance for Sales, Support and Consultancy teams on existing and new functionality to assist with the sales process, improve revenue potential and ensure an effective level of knowledge is maintained throughout the business.

People Management

- To be responsible for the overall management, development and assessment of the Product Development Team and for supporting the achievement of product, quality and financial objectives in line with the agreed departmental objectives.

- To lead, coach and motivate the Product Development Team, ensuring their understanding of the company vision and values, maximum teamwork and co-operation with all areas and divisions of the company and the highest levels of service provision, adherence to quality and best practice.

- To work with the CTO / EVP Technology and HR team to ensure that objectives are set and performance appraisals are conducted for each member of the Product Development team, ensuring that team members have the appropriate skill set to achieve their objectives and are competent in their roles.
