- The job holder is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Legal department, provision of legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks.

Key Responsibilities :

- He/she leads and supervises the members of the company's India Legal Department who report directly to him/her. She/he has the ability to hire (as needed) and manage the Legal Department effectively.

- Through extensive contacts with India's country and finance managers, corporate communications, DPBC, regulatory and other internal groups, as well as outside counsel, strives to maintain and improve company's reputation as a best-in-class innovator dedicated to distributing the highest-quality, effective products while adhering to a high standard of ethical business practices.

- Quickly and effectively identifies legal, public or regulatory issues. Recommends appropriate legal counsel/solutions based on experience and facts.

- Anticipates and resolves problems before they become issues of concern or attention to the public or government (including law enforcement) officials and arising from actual or potential lawsuits.

- Represent the Company or its officials in various proceedings if necessary.

- Uses broad knowledge of legal, political, economic, and social issues to analyze the impact of company business decisions on government and public relations. Conduct and coordinate research into variety of legal issues.

- Uses written and oral communication skills to inform and persuade colleagues in other departments to be responsive to any of legal, ethical or government affairs issues affecting the company. Works closely with colleagues throughout organization to prioritize and act on concerns related to government or regulatory issues.

- As needed, uses specific experience to address issues of concern within India.

- Provide ongoing advisory services to management and business units on issues regarding compliance with company laws and regulations

- Develop and implement proper controls, policies and procedures to ensure the Company complies with internal and external legal and regulatory requirements as applicable to the country's business.

- The preparation, negotiation and review of legal agreements governing commercial relationships with third parties with whom the Company has dealings.

This covers a wide variety of different legal agreements, including but not limited to :

- Agreements for manufacturing Company's products on a third party or loan license basis

- Agreements for purchase, sale or acquisition of premises on leave & license/ lease basis for Company's use

- Agreements with suppliers

- Agreements with stockists and C&F agents

- Agreements for in-licensing, co-marketing or co-promotion of products.

- Assist and train Associates and employees on the impact of various rules and regulations on the business.

- Oversees all legal matters related to the company, including contract review, legal and regulatory adherence, litigation oversight, etc.

- Develops and cultivates key relationships with lawyers. Responsible for liaising with, hiring and firing outside counsel.

- Liaise with external counsels and regulatory bodies for enquiries, reporting, inspection or investigation if required

- Manage the legal as well as company secretary functions for the company in India

- Responsible for ensuring adherence to all local and global governing laws.

- Monitor and conduct regular compliance and risk reviews on business activities.

- Investigate escalated compliance issues, draft and review legal agreement and product documents.

- Any ad hoc assignments or projects as required or if necessary

Minimum Qualifications :

- Minimum of a bachelor's degree Law and any degree/exam passage necessary to practice law in India. Master's degree or a degree in Management preferred.

- Experience in Legal Department in food, pharmacy, liquor or consumables, preferably in a multinational and/or direct selling industry.

- Knowledge of Corporate Laws, MRTP, FEMA and Consumer Laws.

- Broad knowledge of international business practices, trade and commercial policies as well as detailed knowledge of the Indian systems.

- Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities with little supervision

- Ability to organize workload for effective implementation

- Strong customer and results oriented

- Ability to interact effectively at all levels with sensitivity to cultural diversity

- Ability to function as an effective team member

- Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves
