About WaterCapital :

- In 2015, Water.org launched a new business unit, WaterCapital, to raise social impact capital to target investments in water supply and sanitation enterprises and financial institutions, serving those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

- WaterCapital has raised and deployed an initial $10M fund focused on investments in India and is preparing to raise an estimated $50M fund targeting South and Southeast Asia.

JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Reporting to the Director of Portfolio Development, WaterCapital and as a part of an international team of at least three Investment Officers and one Portfolio Manager, the Senior Investment Officer shall be responsible for identifying suitable businesses for investment, conducting due diligence, preparing investment proposals, and monitoring a strong investment portfolio that will enable WaterCapital to reach long-term impact investing goals.

- This is an exciting opportunity for working as a key point of contact for local investees, representing WaterCapital and managing its investment portfolio.

- The post holder shall collaborate with other members of the Investment team and local Water.org programmatic staff members, for building a pipeline of enterprises (financial institutions, privately owned utilities, SMEs, and other water and sanitation-related enterprises) that meet the investment criteria of current and future funds administered by WaterCapital.

- S/he shall introduce investment products to potential investment candidates and cultivate relationships with qualified candidates, while ensuring due diligence and structured investments in close collaboration with US-based WaterCapital colleagues.

- WaterCapital is in a start-up phase, and the Senior Investment Officer's assignment will evolve rapidly, as the team grows and priorities change.

Key Roles and Responsibilities :

Portfolio Development :

- Develop investment pipeline through the identification of potential investees, marketing of WaterCapital investment products and cultivation of relationships.

- Screen businesses and solicit due diligence documents from potential investments.

- Conduct due diligence and investment analysis in collaboration with colleagues.

- Prepare credit appraisal reports and investment proposals.

- Present eligible investments to the Director of Portfolio Development.

- Work with the WaterCapital Operations Department and legal counsel, to ensure timely disbursement/ investment of funds, including legal documentation.

- Assess the need for technical assistance that would strengthen an enterprise's status as a prospective investee.

- Coordinate with Water.org International Programs Department, to gather/ share information and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Portfolio Management :

- Monitor on-going financial and operational performance of clients and share information with Investment team colleagues.

- Analyze country risks and trends.

- Maintain local relationships with clients.

- Support restructurings and workouts.

- Ensure effective and timely communications of the progress and impact of the investment portfolio.

- Support compliance with local regulatory requirements such as tax payments and government reporting.

Strategy and Planning :

- Contribute to the development of national-level investment plans in target geographies including identification and analysis of priority sectors for investment.

- Monitor changes to local regulatory environment.

- Support the Director of Portfolio Development and the Senior Management team in continuously refining the investment strategy and accelerating the growth of the investment portfolio.

- Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Support

- Represent WaterCapital to sector stakeholders and local service providers (law firms, banks, and consultants).

- Present WaterCapital products at conferences and sector events.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES :

Qualifications :

- Applicants must have a MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Development Economics, Commerce or related field.

- CFA, CA professionals or Graduates in Economics, Commerce or Finance with relevant experience can also apply.

Experience :

- Minimum seven years of experience in finance/ microfinance/ social investment.

- Experience with due diligence and analysis of investment opportunities in microfinance institutions and/or other financial institutions.

- Experience in the water and sanitation sector shall be preferable.

- Experience with cross-border investment shall be preferred.

- Experience in building and/or managing investment portfolio monitoring systems.

- Familiarity with legal documentation common to debt and equity transactions.

Skills and Competencies :

- Demonstrated flexibility and success in rapidly changing environments.

- Demonstrated ability to design, launch and scale new projects and initiatives.

- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, adept at concise communications.

- Outstanding client relationship development and management skills.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team including working remotely from other team members, including across borders.

- High degree of Excel proficiency - the ability to create and maintain financial projections.

- Strong understanding of financial accounting.

- Aptitude for presenting financial information in understandable formats for multiple audiences.

- Proactive problem solving attitude.

- Willingness for domestic travel and possibly international travel within Asia (total travel up to 35%) particularly in the early stages of portfolio development.

LOCATION : New Delhi/ Chennai

TENURE & CATEGORY OF EMPLOYMENT :

The successful candidate shall be offered consultancy assignment of up to 360 days and is expected to start on or around January 15, 2017. Upon satisfactory performance this assignment can be extended or transitioned to full-time employment.

COMPENSATION OFFERED :

Gross remuneration/ consultancy fees budgeted for the position is attractive. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and remuneration history.
