One of our clients, is a Singapore Based Startup - Global fully digitized trade finance platform is looking for experienced Senior legal professionals with expertise in Trade Finance and private international law in India

Role summary:

We are looking for an experienced lawyer join our Legal Unit in India to help support company' growing business. We finance global trade and we need a legal team with a global outlook, that understands and can navigate the complex web of international law. The legal team covers all aspects of company's business, including origination and distribution as well as our relationships with vendors and business partners.

Role and Responsibilities:

Provide legal leadership, support and advice to all stakeholders in the business, including:

- Origination product development - working with the commercial team in exploring new products and/or new jurisdictions;

- Distribution product development - working with the commercial team in exploring new methods for distributing risk to investors;

- Supporting existing origination and distribution channels by drafting and reviewing documents; o participating in vendor contract negotiations;

- Corporate compliance (including adherence to policies and processes) and company secretarial matters; and regulatory licence applications and compliance.

- Take responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across the company, including understanding, advising on and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and policies.

- Generally procuring that appropriate legal templates are developed and used.

- Ensuring the transactions the company enters are valid and enforceable under the laws of all relevant jurisdictions.

- Ensuring relevant legal matters related to new product and business launches or expansion into a new geography are identified early and appropriately understood.

- Manage legal documentation across the company, ensuring that our agreements with counterparties e.g. service providers, are robust, including to satisfy regulatory and legal requirements, company policies and minimum legal documentation standards.

- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations relating to the company's business activities and find ways to reduce legal risk for the company.

- Manage the process of engaging external counsel, including effective instructions to external counsel and negotiating appropriate fee structures for the case in question. `

Role specific technical competencies:

Qualifications: (training, licences, memberships and certifications):

- Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction with the equivalent of at least [10+] 2 years of PQE [or 13+ PQE in India], of which are least [5] years must have been spent in private practice, preferably with a top tier firm or a boutique trade finance firm.

- Strong law degree from a recognised institution.

- Strong experience in both transaction management and advisory work.

- Strong analytical and drafting skills.

- Relentless research skills - is able to find the answer to legal questions which they have not encountered before.

- An ability to work with the other functions (e.g., risk, finance, data, technology etc.) and the business to find ways to make deals work.

- A predisposition towards collaboration.

- Expertise in: o trade finance; and o private international law / conflict of laws;

- Experience in all of the following areas: o structured finance / securitisation; technology;

- Financial services regulation;

- Capital markets;

- Bank lending;

- Tax; and insolvency.
