Senior Analyst - Financial Research: DESRI (Corporate Controller)

D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) develops, acquires, builds, owns, and operates solar and wind renewable energy generation facilities in the U.S. DESRI currently owns, operates, or has an exclusivity agreement or signed purchase and sale agreement in place with respect to more than two GW of solar and wind assets in the U.S. across 38 projects. DESRI is run by a dynamic team headquartered in New York, with additional employees in Boston, Chicago, Minnesota, California, Arizona, Oregon, and Hyderabad (India).

We are looking for a resourceful candidate to join our Financial Research group based out of the firm's office in Hyderabad, India. The candidate will work closely with the DESRI team and will be part of the Corporate Accounting function. This role requires regular interaction with U.S. and Hyderabad-based teams, as well as external parties.

WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TODAY:

- Maintain the books and records for the corporate entities of the company's renewable energy business

- Record monthly transactions and complete the month-end ledger close on the company's enterprise accounting platform (Net Suite), including bank reconciliations, receivable and payable accruals, intercompany transactions, eliminations, amortization, valuation adjustments, and GAAP presentation entries for the DESRI corporate entities

- Adhere to month-end close and reporting timelines, control procedures, period- end close checklists, and income statement and balance sheet review timetables

- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, account roll forwards, and account balance substantiation using reconciliation tools such as Blackline

- Prepare flux analysis reports to analyze and explain variances in account balances from budgets and prior periods

- Prepare timely and high quality quarterly, annual, and ad hoc US GAAP-compliant financial statements, including annual footnotes for corporate entities

- Review US GAAP accounting assessments related to new renewable energy acquisitions and other complex transactions such as new financing and corporate restructurings to ensure proper financial statement disclosures

- Provide support to internal and external auditors in completing the statutory and internal audits for various DESRI entities

- Collaborate closely with the Hyderabad and U.S.-based treasury, asset management, accounts payable, and accounting teams to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient processing/recording of transactions and resolution of queries

- Work on initiatives related to establishing, standardizing, optimizing, and documenting accounting processes and workflows (as well as internal accounting controls)

WHO WE- RE LOOKING FOR:

- A Chartered Accountant or a Certified Public Accountant with 2-3 years of work experience

- Candidates who work well independently with limited direction and guidance, and who have a proficient understanding of U.S. GAAP for U.S.-based audits

- Candidates having an understanding of financial agreements, contracts (such as credit and equity investment agreements), and corporate financing facilities

- Excellent written and spoken communication skills

- Any experience in the energy, real estate, and/or financial services sectors is an added advantage
