Reporting to : General Manager – Plant Operations

Location: Trichy

Overall purpose of job

Head the Safety Department and to carryout & perform all related activities to create Safety Culture and Trichy Factory as injury free and safe place to work for all categories of people.

Main activities/ tasks

- Accident Investigation and Reporting, Liaison with Government, Fire Dept, Factories inspectorate & TNPCB

- Safety Training by On the Job Training, Tool Box Meeting, and Class room Training and Developing Training Modules for new equipment, process, and product with Technical Team to ensure safety.

- Training to Emergency Teams on Fire fighting and Emergency Preparedness

- Conduct Safety Committee meeting, Fire drills and Mock drills on regular basis.

- Monitoring the Workplace on Industrial Hygiene and suggest the control methods.

- Carry out planned Safety Inspection and Risk Analysis and draw action plan.

- Observe the Unsafe Conditions, Unsafe Act and Violation of safety Rules in the plant to initiate action for rectification by Technical Team.

- Ensure and close monitoring of Work Permits System e.g. Hot Work, HT Electrical, Confined Space, Work at Height and provide the Safety measures

- Co-ordinate, Assess and give Safety Clearance for plant maintenance activities.

- Maintain all relevant Safety and Environmental status data for reviews.

- Compile and report Safety Frequency and Safety Severity rate for Trichy plant and compile the data for other plants and send the India Safety Flash report Asia Safety Head (Technical Head) .

- Find out the Non conformance and suggest control measures to the respective area champion & co-ordinate its implementation

- Complying and maintaining the test certificate from CIF approved persons for lifting tools and tackles, Safety relief valves etc

- Management representative for OSHAS 18001 and ISO14001

- Submission of Appropriate Statutory Returns like Environmental Statement to TNPCB, Hazardous Waste Data, Water Consumption data, Reports related on Accident to Factory Inspectorate, Fire Service Dept and apply for Safety Awards of both state and central

- Conducting Safety Day celebration, Environment Day Celebration functions to create the mass awareness to employees with various competitions conducted and extend coordination to all other functions at the unit.

- Drive, Coordinate and implement TPM and its related activities in the Factory.

- Efficiency monitoring and Environment compliance of ETP, RO plant

- Disposal of Hazardous Waste to TNPCB approved recyclers

Educational qualifications & Experience

Hence it is a statutory position, M.E Industrial Safety Engineering with First Class from the institutions approved by Inspectorate Factories with 5 + yrs of experience in Industrial Safety. Candidates studied in Central Labour Institute (CLI), Mumbai, Regional Labour Institute (RLI), Mepco – Sivakasi or KSR Eng College Tiruchengode, M.Tech(Industrial Safety Eng from NIT formerly RECTrichy will only eligible to be appointed as Safety Manager/ Asst Manager.

His working methods should lead to improvement of Manufacturing Performance identified through self Audits, Gap identification, Bench marking with Best Practices and Setting target and mile stones in consultation with Factory team
