Position Description:
RTI India is hiring an Accountant on the recently awarded USAID-funded South Asia Regional Energy Project.
Responsibilities of the Accountant include, but are not limited to:
- Supports the Finance and Grants Director to ensure appropriate systems are in place for timely and cost-effective disbursement, accounting, budgeting, and reporting of project funds in compliance with local and USAID regulations.
- Provide functional support for RTIs finance and accounting function.
- Accounting/keep track of expenses and other financial transactions, mainly involving expense entry, tracking, and recordkeeping.
- Prepare and submit monthly expense reports to the RTI home office.
- Review expenses and financial transactions to ensure it is compliance with RTI procedures and terms of the agreement.
- Maintain inventory tracking system and does periodic reviews to ensure compliance with RTI procedures and terms of the agreement.
- Reconcile cash accounts for field offices.
- Perform the cash management functions required in maintaining RTI bank accounts.
- Manage petty cash accounts.
- Follow up with field offices to make sure that bi-weekly expense is within the deadline.
- Review and submit monthly bank reconciliations for all project countries.
- Submit report of the findings to regional controller.
- Recommend necessary ideas based on the review findings to regional controller to improve quality of reporting.
- Provide training materials for field finance staff.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by his/her supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in accountancy, finance, business administration (specializing in finance), or other relevant field, or equivalent with 6 years of experience, or a bachelors degree in finance, commerce or accountancy and 8 years of experience in administrative and financial management of complex development assistance programs.
CA certification is preferred.
- Prior experience overseeing finances for a USAID-funded project of a similar size and complexity is desirable.
- Previous experience with USAID-funded programs, and fluency with USAID policies and procedures related to financial management, financial reporting, and grant making.
- Results-oriented and focused, with the ability to follow guidelines and controls required of the position.
- Budgeting, financial analysis, and MS Excel skills required.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks preferred), Word, PowerPoint and Access.
- Demonstrated team player with effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills; able to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Verbal and written fluency in English, along with strong communications, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
