Position : R & D (New Product Development)

Location : Madurai

Company : Automotive Sector

Key Performance Area :

- No. of projects completed

KEY ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Design and development of products as per specific AM / Customers / Consultants requirements

- Interface with AM for understanding the specific requirements and work closely with the CFT and support in preparation of proposal for NPD to be submitted to NPD Head.

- Lead technical discussions related to product design / development with AMs / Customers.

- Work with FEA to convert the data and information required for NPD for AM requirements to enable calculation workout for NPD activities.

- Plan and assess the requirement for specific projects.

- Review the arrangement for all resources like materials, machines, tools, etc. for executing NPD AM plans and the moulds, materials and tools (to be used for making the product) for their appropriateness.

- Review the test tyre analysis report post the testing trials with the test centre.

- Keep track of NPD progress / timelines and ensure timely documentation of the activities.

- Review layout modification in case of changes in design or process.

- Review the prototype for product design and co-ordinate with AM for sample submission.

2. Market Analysis and Customer Interaction

- Liaise with the Marketing / Sales team to understand the current market scenario and customer feedback / expectations about the product.

- Conduct market visits to address critical issues and analyze product performance in the market.

- Analyze the market feedback and devise strategies to improvise the product performance by incorporating the suggestions / changes as apart of product development / improvement.

- Understand the product issues through discussions with the custodians and provide suggestions for improvements.

- Drive benchmarking studies to evaluate competitor products and adopt industry best practices for optimum product performance.

- Identify emerging technologies, assess their applicability to the business needs and develop proposals to take advantage of emerging business opportunities.

- Ensure the queries / complaints raised by AM and Customer Service team are resolved in a timely manner.

3. NPD and Product Improvement

- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the team including cross function team in addressing product development and management issues.

- Liaise with Marketing and Sales teams to ensure customer insights are manifested in product designs.

- Ensure that the new product developed meets the quality, cost and delivery standards set by the customers.

- Ensure competitiveness and innovation of products from a technological and design standpoint.

- Drive quality and process standardization across various stages of product development.

- Review the report on claim analysis and take appropriate action for product improvement.

- Ensure all documents are maintained as per the standard requirement (E-MARK / TS / SNI etc.)

4. Cost Management

- Assist in ensuring adherence to the Product development budget by monitoring budgets.

- Ensure design and development of new products with less number of stages (internal iterations) and higher efficiency (reduction in design cycle time).

- Drive product cost optimization (Technical economy) by improving existing products and adopting latest technologies.

5. People Management

- Guide and manage the team to meet the department objectives.

- Conduct effective performance appraisals and provide regular feedback to manage the performance of the team.

- Ensure that the team is adequately trained to improve capability within the department.

- Improve technical knowledge within the department by encouraging the team to undertake training and upgrade capability.

- Ensure people involvement in improvement initiatives.

- Continuously strive to enhance self-capabilities by attending trainings, seminars, conferences, etc.
