R&D Design & Development - Consumer Durables

We are having an opportunity for the position R&D Operations with one of the leading company in Manufacturing Industry in consumer durable.

Please note below the JD:

Research and Idea Brief:

- Identifying different idea concepts based on inputs from marketing, promoters or internal exploration based on product enhancements.

- Work closely with product managers and receive inputs on product enhancements keeping customer preferences in mind with a focus on target costing.

- Developing a funnel of ideas to be pursued and be able to prioritize these ideas.

- Developing a healthy mix between enhancement lead R&D projects and breakthrough product R&D

- Actively searches for best-in-class technologies among competitors and develops innovation roadmap including suggesting to management.

- Steps to convert an Idea to a working model/prototype which include the entire engineering algorithm.

- Developing options for product design from an engineering point and identifying the most feasible, cost effective model.

Design and Execution of ideas:

- Defining elements of the product from concept stage to design break down

- Coordinating with design to create drawing and engineering drawings.

- Coordinating with the factory/operation to make prototypes.

- Resource allocation and budget management for R&D projects in consultation with the VP-Operations

- Tie up with scientific institutions to seek advise on engineering challenges

Validation and Testing:

- Testing the proof of concept and engineering feasibility including performance within different situations

- Simulating the product look and feel including inputs in aesthetics

- Customer convenience of the product and ease in customer usage.

- Bringing a closure to all ideas and shelving ideas that may not be immediately implementable.

- Understand extended technologies like new cuts and forms available and implement as per business need.

- Meet plant expectations on training, understanding the product details, process details, consumer defects, so to help plant to make products meeting the design requirement.

- Ensures that the product conforms to all standards-international and local, ISI etc and conformance to safety.

Team Management:

- Hiring a talented set of people and providing them direction and mentorship

- Energizing them to think creatively and beyond the boundaries and investing in their development.

- Setting goals and internal benchmarks for delivery. Performance review and management.

- Retention of cream talent

Qualification: BE Mechanical

Competencies/Skills:

Knowledge:

- Engineering knowledge especially deep design understanding

- Understanding of insulation systems and preferable if knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer engineering

Skills:

- Creating design models, skills in autocad latest version

- Calculating engineering values based on concept

- Significant understanding and interpretation of design drawings

Abilities/Competencies:

- Creative mind set and orientation to think wide and beyond horizons

- Patience to create different options knowing well that some may get rejected.

- Incumbent must not get frustrated with frequent rejections
