The Role :

The role is responsible for the supervision of all daily deliverables within index administration and calculation functions as per the defined SLA on accuracy and timeline. This also includes the task of providing training to junior team members, working with technology teams on platform enhancements, working on the review of indices, third party due diligence, running controls and ensuring procedures are adhered to and reviewing them as a part of compliance with regulations. The role-holder will also be responsible for managing 3 to 6 people.

What the Business Does :

The NWM Custom Index team based out of India supports the Benchmark and Index team located in the UK with the administration, calculation, and publication of daily closing values of NWM and other third-party Indices covering equity index, FX, commodity and multi-asset underlying assets. The team works in a highly controlled environment and adheres to principles mandated by various regulators.

Your Responsibilities :

- Supervise the backtest of complex long or short algorithm-based indices on equity index and commodities, or rolling out future strategies and flagging potential issues.

- Review index and strategy algorithms, identify issues in the calculation of volatility, correlation, long or short signals etc. and recommend appropriate changes to the relevant committees.

- Oversee the daily verification process and all ad-hoc administration deliverables like 3rd party diligence and processing 3rd party invoices, analyses of client queries in consultation with legal, compliance and onshore team as applicable.

- Oversee the website index publication and publication of appropriate notices on the website as required by the control framework.

- Conduct the index reviews in line with agreed and approved review schedule, creating a detailed document for the governance committee covering all aspects of the review including quantitative model and algorithms used, risk factors and input data assessment, as well as working with legal to standardise definitions and reduce the scope of discretion in the index.

- Implement the team's strategic plans, across multiple dimensions - customer offering, costs, people and business expansion; constantly evaluate plans based on changes in the business.

- Define, drive and shape the culture of the team to help achieve strategic goals and collaborate and partner with colleagues across the businesses and the Group to deliver long term value creation.

- Track delivery of various BAU deliveries of the IAS team as per agreed SLA.

- Create appropriate MI for oversight committees - Benchmark Oversight Committee ( BOC ) and Benchmark Provision Committee ( BPC) to provide appropriate details on the lifecycle events like Index Launch, Decommission and Changes.

- Deal with external communication from stakeholders (like product holders, hedge providers) seeking information or raising a challenge on methodology. Ensure an approach for all replies is pre-agreed with legal and compliance as appropriate.

The Skills You Will Need :

- Engineering from a top-tier institute with a few courses in the finance area like CFA or FRM or major in finance (CA or MBA) with technology bend of mind.

- Working knowledge of relevant regulations applicable to the index administration function.

- Relevant experience in investment strategy building or proprietary rule-based index maintenance for structured products division of an Investment bank or Hedge fund or Index provider.

- Proven experience in team management, preferably in an off-shoring context.

- Diverse knowledge across the asset class.

- Good Knowledge of MS Excel and VBA, exposer to Confluence and JIRA.

- Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming and Python or MATLAB would be an added advantage.

- Demonstrate a high degree of analytical, numerical, and verbal competencies.

- Multi-tasking in a dynamic and fast changing environment.
