Primary Purpose of Role :

- Provide technical expertise, coordination, program and change management, across climate, waste, packaging. plastic, circular economy & product stewardship.

- This role aims to improve the effectiveness and timely development & deployment of our programs, optimising our return on investment & brand reputation.

- You will work with subject matter experts in the team and external partners on key initiatives providing technical, managerial or operational support and leadership.

Job Description :

- Team Member Minimum Requirements

- Required Qualification Level: Bachelor Degree (Undergrad) Qualification Field: Environment or Sustainability

- Preferred Qualification Level: Masters Qualification Field: Environment, Sustainabilty or MBA

- Level of role: Line Manager / Professional Years of Experience required for role: 10-15 years

- Individual contributors with responsibility in a professional or technical discipline or specialty, but may manage two or fewer employees. May direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education (3-4 year University degree).

Technical Skills required:

- Climate science and change (measurement, policy and action) Waste management/diversion and recycling systems

- Plastic and packaging sustainability (materials selection, performance) Product stewardship & circularity (cradle to grave philosophy)

Traits / Abilities:

- Multi-tasker Change agent, influencer and able to communicate complex concepts easily

- Able to lead and work in teams and or opperate autonomously Can-do attitude

Position Scope

- Area of Accountability Key Responsibilities & Deliverables Performance Measures & Targets

- Climate science and change (measurement, policy and action) Work with subject matter experts in the team, consultants and the Energy Cetnre (outsourced) to develop, deliver and monitor Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reduction and offset programs with a focus on our merchandise and suppliers. This will include business case development, and the coordination and consolidation of analytics and reporting. Achieve agreed carbon emissions reduction program targets.

- Plastic and packaging sustainability Work with subject matter experts in the team and external consultants to develop, deliver and monitor programs to reduce the envioronmental impacts of plastic and packaging. This will include business case development, Buyer, Merchandiser and Supplier engagement, change management and the coordination and consolidation of analytics and reporting. Packaging goals met by Dec 2023. Agreed plastic targers met re problematic plymers, recyclablity/compostability and recycled content/reduction in virgin polymer use.

- Waste diversion Work with subject matter experts in the team and our consultants to develop, deliver and monitoring waste and recyling systems across our store and DC network. Achievement of agreed waste diversion targets. Cost control (waste and recycling services). Budget management (projects).


- Product stewardship and circularity Work with subject matter experts in the team and consultants to develop, deliver, monitor and report product stewardship and circularity programs to manage coproate obligations and achieve key Better Together targets. Reputation management (product stewardship). Management of corporate risk of not meeting stewardship obligations. Achieve key circular economy and Better Together materials targets.

- Budgeting, data analysis and reporting Establish and coordinate efficient data collection and management systems across the team. Coordinate the collation of performance reports. Timely and efficient analytics and reporting. Budget management.

- Key Challenges of This Position: This role has a very broad remit and there are a growing number of iniatives and activities underway at any one time. As a champion for change, you will incur internal and external resistance from a very complex and large network of stakeholders.
