Principal Investment - Private Equity Space

Our client is an Institutional Investor that partners with companies and helps them grow fundamentally stronger and better through its extensive operating and entrepreneurial experience

It is one of the early entrants into the Private Equity space in India. Between its three Funds, it manages a corpus of approximately USD800 Million of growth-oriented investments that are India-centric.

POSITION DESCRIPTION - Principal Investments

The Principal position will be geographically located in Chennai, India. The role involves covering the following responsibilities on India Investments:

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Integrally involved with all aspects of the private equity investment process, including: sourcing and evaluating potential investments; performing due diligence; handling negotiations; structuring and closing transactions.

- New deal development and analysis - networking with investment banks and other sources for deal generation, validation of industry thesis, development of investment angles, competitive industry and market analysis leading to a recommendation

- Learning and following the dynamics of the industries covered; building relationships with management teams, the firm's senior advisors, as well as external advisors and industry experts; identifying attractive investment themes and opportunities; gathering and synthesizing industry and market data.

- Extensive analysis on potential investments, including in-depth financial modelling; managing the due diligence process, including overseeing legal, tax, and commercial diligence advisors; drafting and presenting oral and written materials to management and investors; monitoring and reporting on portfolio company performance; and developing and supporting operational initiatives within portfolio companies.

- Monitoring and implementing improvements at portfolio companies; exiting investments; and interacting with the firm's investors, clients and limited partners.

- Ability to join a small dedicated team of professionals taking it from inception through to a large corporation. Should be able to manage an investment team and work in the team culture of the parent company.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Key attributes of the successful candidates would be:

- 15 years of overall experience; a minimum 8-10 years of India Private Equity buy-side experience over the PE cycle ranging from investment to divestment is strongly preferred

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of finance and accounting and basic level of legal understanding relevant to the PE investments is required; ability to interact with top management teams is a must

- Understanding of business dynamics across key sectors, characteristics of good investments, and good financial and analytical skills are expected

- Outstanding academic background with undergraduate degree from IITs / equivalent qualification, along with post graduate degree in business / accounting from premier institutes and a passion for investing with demonstrable track record

- Ability to operate with limited supervision. Dedicated team player with a strong sense of ownership; eager to learn and work with others.
