PhonePe has forayed into diverse areas with its offerings in almost all fintech segments including insurance, lending, mutual funds and stock broking. In 2024, PhonePe also launched Indus AppStore - its own native Android-based mobile app store built for Indian consumers providing app discovery and content in 12 Indian languages.

Job Objective:

We are seeking an experienced Global HR Operations Manager to join our HR Operations team. The Global HR Operations Manager will be responsible for setting up the HR Operations processes including identifying potential local payroll and compliance partners in overseas locations where PhonePe expands its business. The incumbent will evaluate potential partners based on various factors and present the final choice(s) to the management.

Responsibilities:

Setting-up Global HR Operations:

- Establish the HR Operations processes for the new overseas location where PhonePe sets up office/ business.

- Establish the HR operational frameworks, policies, and procedures in line with the regulatory requirements and cultural nuances of the country of operation.

- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis to identify key HR operational challenges, market trends, and best practices in target countries, for informed decision-making.

- Collaborate with legal, finance, and business teams to ensure seamless integration of HR operations with overall business expansion objectives.

- Establish relationships with external vendors/ partners for supporting HR operational needs in new countries.

- Evaluate the performance of HR operations in new countries, conducting regular assessments/ audits to ensure adherence to relevant standards, policies, and regulations.

- Stay abreast of emerging trends, regulatory changes, and developments in global HR operations, proactively identifying opportunities for optimization to drive business success.

Setting-up Global Payroll and Compliance Partnerships:

- Research and identify potential local payroll and compliance partners in overseas locations where PhonePe plans to expand.

- Evaluate potential partners based on criteria such as expertise, reliability, compliance with local regulations and cost-effectiveness.

- Develop a comprehensive understanding of payroll and compliance requirements in each country of operation.

- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including the Finance, Legal, Compliance (Anti-Corruption), Procurement, and Business teams, to gather requirements and assess partner suitability.

- Conduct due diligence on potential partners, including reviewing their track record, client references, and financial stability.

- Negotiate contracts and service agreements with selected partners, ensuring terms and conditions meet the company's needs and standards.

- Present recommendations and findings for approval and selection of partner.

- Oversee the onboarding process for selected partners, ensuring smooth integration with existing payroll systems and processes.

- Provide ongoing support and guidance to local payroll partners, monitoring performance and addressing any issues or concerns that may arise.

- Stay abreast of changes in global payroll regulations and best practices, recommending adjustments to payroll processes and partnerships as needed.

- Validating the monthly/periodic invoices and ensuring the payment to the partners.

Managing Global Payroll and Compliance:

- Work hand in hand with appointed local partners to accurately manage the monthly payroll.

- Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations with help from the local partners.

- Reconciling payroll reports, including salary changes, taxes and deductions as per the local standards.

- Lead conversations with leaders in the respective countries on payroll & benefits related agenda.

- Addressing the payroll, benefits and tax related queries from the employees in the respective overseas location.

- Act as a subject matter expert on global payroll matters, providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders as required.

Capabilities & Requirements:

- Master's degree/MBA in Human Resources.

- 7-8 years of experience in global HR operations management or related roles. Experience in setting up HR operations processes across multiple countries including onboarding, payroll and compliance, is mandatory.

- In-depth knowledge of global payroll regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices.

- Experience in identifying and selecting relevant vendors/ partners for various HR operations activities in multiple countries.

- Ability to work with senior management of respective countries

- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Drive for result, strong bias for action, problem solving and ownership.
