Packaging Engineer role in Technical R&D packaging team

Location: Frimley (UK)

Contract type: Short term - 4 months - on the rolls of the organisation and extendable

3 days working from office and 2 days work from home

Reporting into: Director Packaging, R&D

Function: Research & Development

Overview:

- We're seeking an experienced Packaging Engineer on short term basis. You need to be open to new design possibilities and bring them to life through your technical expertise, problem-solving outlook, and collaboration with all stakeholders.

- The role is based in the R&D function and requires owning and delivering end-to-end NPD packaging projects working directly on our Innovation pipeline.

Responsibilities:

- Lead Packaging development and testing of NPD and Supply chain/Operations led packaging projects.

- Conduct in-depth technical feasibility assessments on packaging design, including environmental impact, supply chain, manufacturing, cost drivers, potential IP issues and consumer impact.

- Develop and execute package qualification plans, line trials, mold sampling, and equipment capability studies to ensure a successful commercialization.

- Write and create the required packaging testing protocols and trial reports as required to progress projects and make informed decisions and recommendations.

- Write and create packaging related specifications, finished product manuals, BOMs and manage data accuracy in Project Lifecycle Management software SAP.

- Provide technical inputs and updates in project team meetings, dial up on communication across cross functional team members dispersed globally.

Capabilities and experience you'll bring:

- Experience with ISBM, EBM and/or injection molding

- Custom mould development and statistical qualification of tools

- Reading 2D technical drawings and making suggestions/changes as required

- Experience of working with post-consumer recycled plastics and paper

- Proven understanding of packaging components, supplier processes, manufacturing processes

- Experience in liquid/powder fill manufacturing environments

- An understanding of component printing/decoration techniques

- Experience in working with E-commerce testing and certification process.
