National Manager - Motor Underwriting

Purpose:

Achieve profitable growth within the Motor insurance portfolio by providing underwriting leadership as well as strategic direction for the respective product range.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Drive implementation of UW and Risk Selection strategy and create a business model to protect bottom-line while aggressively supporting business targets.

- Develop the technical maturity of the Motor business, by providing advice and support on Motor product strategy, product development, and pricing and reporting best practices.

- Support in development and maintenance of strategic and operational policies/processes and setting underwriting guidelines in compliance with risk strategy

- Assures the accurate application of established guidelines, rules, and regulations; Makes effective decisions based on thorough knowledge of all financial implications both to the customer and to company.

- Lead the development, and ensure the maintenance of Motor rating and deviation tools.

- Develop and maintain a strong awareness and monitoring of competitors- Motor products and pricing

- Work with key stakeholders to ensure that innovative UW features are embedded into new/ existing products and associated marketing practices

- Prepares analytics and reporting of book of business for Underwriting Management on a regular basis.

- Lead technical aspects of Motor product development together with all key stakeholders like Marketing, Distribution, IT, Claims and operations.

- Review the Motor pricing analyses, and related findings- implementations

Promote the use of best pricing practices related to Motor products (e.g. segmentation, generalized linear models, monitoring and actions related to portfolio ageing, etc.) to

- Underwriting and Actuaries staff

- Develop and implement UW KPIs (technical and operational) and standards and conduct regular experience reviews in consultation with claims and risk teams

- Provide guidance and frameworks to ensure local / regional UWs are able to optimally underwrite cases with entrusted authority independently.

- Responds to Request for Proposals (RFPs) in a timely and accurate manner; Analyzes and drives decisions on RFP responses.

- Provides technical training and mentoring to less experienced Underwriting colleagues as well as Sales Representatives.

Qualification/ Experience:

Long-time experience (10+ years) in underwriting both Private and Commercial Motor, and demonstrated track record of Motor Insurance success and expertise

Excellent understanding of technical underwriting, underwriting processes and portfolio management

Good understanding of claims, Motor Third party, Fraud analytics,

Capable of managing, training and developing associates and supporting underwriters

Knowledge:

Comprehensive knowledge of Motor coverage, wordings and pricing methodologies

Good knowledge of the Indian insurance market, market players and market segments including potential exposures.

Analytical approach to pricing and exposure assessment

Technical Skills:

Good communication and strong negotiating skills

Highly developed analytical skills and good understanding of financial metrics (KPI- s)
