MSCI - Equity Data Analyst

POSITION OVERVIEW:

- Data Management department is intended to improve the data management abilities of MSCI. As part of this initiative, 2 teams have been setup viz. Project team and Production team.

- Project team: is responsible for constructing data histories for new markets/ enhancing coverage in existing markets. The team also continuously enhances data history by eliminating data gaps, fixing errors etc.

- Production team: is responsible for ensuring security master and market data coverage and quality of equity securities and other asset classes for MSCI as a whole

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Equity Data Analyst will work with the Projects team. The roles and responsibilities of this position are as follows :

- Constructing data histories : The analyst will be responsible for :

- Identifying target asset list and building market data, fundamental data and industry classification histories for target assets

- Performing asset level QA and high-level time series coverage analysis, simulation tests using ETL platforms like SAS/Matlab

- Continuously enhance the data construction procedures, create process documentation and establish standard operating procedures

- End-to-end management of data collation, loading and quality checks, reporting and analysis and product delivery for MSCI products

- Performing quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy of historical model data updates

- Enhance asset coverage for existing defined regions and asset classes

- Evaluating vendor data for asset information and market data coverage across asset classes/markets

- Work effectively with colleagues in IT, Product and Project Management, Market Data, Research, Sales/Coverage and the Client Service organization among others

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate would have the following skill sets:

- Experience in quantitative analysis and researching equity markets

- Prior exposure to data analysis/operations is desirable

- Good analytical skills combined with ability to manage large amount of data

- Ability and willingness to ‘get hands dirty’ in the ground level processes

- Strong sense of ownership and an execution driven culture

- Ability to articulate the substantive issues clearly and concisely to peers, senior management and clients

- Strong analytical skills and ability to conceptualize and think creatively

- Self-starter, high level of motivation and commitment to hard work

- High level of focus on work quality/attention to detail and accuracy

- Desire and ability to effectively work with diverse cultures on a global team

- Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially MS Excel

- Programming skills and working knowledge of ETL platforms like SAS/ Matlab

- CA/MBA/CFA

- 3-5.5 yrs of work experience
