Microfinance Business Expert - Global Consulting Firm - Contractual Role

Our client, a global consulting firm, is working on a large-scale PMO program for a leading private sector bank in Mumbai. The objective of this project is to enhance the bank's microfinance business by leveraging expert insights and industry best practices. Hence, they are seeking a seasoned individual with extensive experience in leading microfinance operations within financial institutions, particularly in India.

The expert will play a pivotal role in guiding the bank's strategy for expanding its microfinance offerings. This includes advising on business capabilities, expansion strategies, technological requirements, and other key aspects. The project is part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening the bank's position in the microfinance sector and improving financial inclusion.

Key responsibilities:

- Leading client conversations on building direct business of microfinance within the financial institution

- Providing expert suggestions on capabilities needed, mode of expansion, technological requirements, and other strategic considerations

- Collaborating closely with the client's team to develop and implement tailored solutions for enhancing the microfinance business

- Serving as a subject matter expert on back-end processes, front-end customer-facing journeys, and different business models in the microfinance sector

Your background:

- 15+ years of experience working with NBFC-MFI institutions or Indian banks with a focus on microfinance, such as Bandhan Bank, HDFC Bank, Ujjivan SFB, Bharat Financial Inclusion (now part of IndusInd), etc.

- Expertise in microfinance operations, including back-end processes, customer-facing journeys, and business model development

- Strong understanding of the Indian financial services sector, particularly in the context of microfinance

- Previous experience in a leadership role within the microfinance division of financial institutions

- Knowledge of technological requirements and capabilities needed to build an in-house microfinance ecosystem

This opportunity will be on an initial 1-month contract. The project's location is Mumbai, where the expert will be expected to contribute to the team's efforts on a part-time basis in a hybrid setup.
