Job Purpose :

Working mainly in the life insurance area, typically with a focus on financial reporting, this role will be split between external audit for broadly half of the year and a range of consultancy work for the balance of the year.

Owing to regulatory changes, Mazars faces a once-in-a-generation growth opportunity within the UK and is looking for candidates make their mark in leading and adding value to a growing global business. The role also includes managing a team of actuarial trainees with medium-term opportunity to progress to a senior level.

Job Role :

Engagement Management :

- Manage the delivery of all life and health external audit and internal audit support work acting as a key point of client contact.

- Liaise closely with Life Actuarial Partner(s), key audit and internal audit managers, whilst managing the work of the actuarial trainees.

- Provide life and health actuarial consultancy to insurers and reinsurers.

- Ensure engagements are executed and delivered to a high technical standard that can stand up to regulatory and other consultancy (e.g. Big Four) scrutiny.

- Ensure engagements are delivered in line with budgets, deadlines and Mazars policies and procedures.

- Understand and address key client issues and anticipate and manage client expectations.

- Maintain top quality delivery, producing output at a consistently high level.

- Takes ownership and accountability for the client relationship and staffs accordingly.

- Commercially astute and aware of the requirement for client profitability.

Technical Life and Health Actuarial :

- Maintain and develop up-to-date and sound technical life and health insurance knowledge.

- Understand and apply life and health actuarial techniques.

- Good knowledge of reserving methodologies used for financial reporting, including IFRS 4 & 17, UK GAAP, Solvency II, as well as other methodologies used internationally.

- Detailed knowledge and familiarity with Technical Actuarial Standards.

People Management :

- Actively participate in the teams approach to people management.

- Develop actuarial technicians and analysts at all levels through effective supervising, coaching, motivating and mentoring.

- Assist in the identification and recruitment of new talent to the team and organisation.

- Maintain a work environment that people find compelling as a place to learn, grow and contribute.

Business Development :

- Champion Mazars overall and particularly the Life and Health Actuarial areas.

- Provide measured and well-thought through input to the overall team and Mazars strategic objectives.

- Develop life and health actuarial consulting opportunities.

- Develop new ideas about maintaining existing business and growing new business, e.g (not exhaustive

- Leverage client relationships to drive new business opportunities and internal client referrals.

- Understand Mazars full service offerings and identify other business opportunities.

- Help promote life and health actuarial offerings through conference speaking, written articles, social media, etc.

- Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts.

- Develop an industry profile as an industry expert and be known for externally marketing Mazars services.
 
Person Specification :

- Newly qualified life actuary up to 5 to 7 years post-qualification experience.

- Experience, particularly undertaking external audit and/or delivering financial reporting or valuation. A variety of financial reporting standards experience is preferable.

- Willingness to support the wider Actuarial & Risk team, working on projects outside the traditional life and health areas.

- Willingness to travel.

- Excellent communication skills and technical attention to detail.

- Would suit a self-starter with drive, ambition and a desire to grow the business into their own role and progress their career.
