Position : Assistant Vice President - Underwriting Department: Operations Reporting to: Vice President- Underwriting Location: Gurgaon JOB SUMMARY-Core job is to play a pivotal role in building a focused, customer-focused and compliant protection underwriting team that contributes to Max Life's ability to write profitable new business in protection. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : 1. Strengthening the Underwriting Management : - Risk assessment and placement of profitable lives on the company books. - Evaluate emerging trends, competition practices, formulate options and propose recommendations on guideline to senior management. - Agree, publish and adhere to SLAs for online term business (TAT&amp; Accuracy). - Ensure due diligence in underwriting practices and risk evaluation to ensure mortality assumptions are on track. - Constantly look for opportunities and innovation to simplify online customer experience with respect to Policy Documentation and Digital application - Monitor leakage and bring in systemic guideline changes to reduce the same. - Enhancing the UW throughput through case summarization and finding a way to innovate. - Sharing feedback and conducting a meeting with the relevant stakeholders time to time - Improving UW productivity through case preparation&amp; automation - Set up and review underwriting guidelines and requirements for MLI products 2. Build strong risk management practices within Underwriting : - Develop risk selection guidelines to protect MLI's benefits and ensure effective mortality experience management. - Evaluate risks and make a final decision on most unusual or risky cases. - Maintain relationship with reinsurers for high-value cases. 3. General Operations Management : - Drive highest levels of customer satisfaction through building hassle free underwriting processes. - Establish, document and communicate service standards to all concerned stakeholders. - Establish a mechanism for a timely and comprehensive resolution of customer queries and issues. - Ensure operational readiness pre launch and scale up based on business volumes - Ensure coordination between various cross-functional stakeholders to maintain the smooth functioning of the channel - Drive initiatives related to Underwriting Management in line with the Organization's functional strategy. - Evaluate &amp; select appropriate automation opportunities to meet cost, efficiency &amp; customer service objectives. Measures of Success: i. Meeting the business forecast and capacity planning. ii. Quality of portfolio taken on books- Mortality experience iii. Best-in-class policy issuance TAT. iv. TAT adherence with SLAs and compliance for all business lines. v. Audit rating of 2 for all business lines. vi. Effectiveness of engagements with Distribution to support the business. vii. High level of distributor &amp; customer satisfaction scores. viii. Retention and enhancement of team talent. Key Relationships : i. Internal: Channel Heads, Agent Advisors, Field Operations, IT. ii. External: Distributors, Web aggregators, Reinsurers, Business Partners/ Vendors. Key personal competencies required: i. Logical thinking and strong people management skills. ii. Creativity with the ability to come up with imaginative and innovative solutions to business needs. iii. Strong communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to express ideas clearly and persuasively. iv. Customer focus. v. Ability to work together with all stakeholders. vi. Sound knowledge of the industry best practices, Qualification and experience- Essential : - Graduate/Post Graduate preferably in Hospital Administration, Medico, BSC (Hons) in Nursing, Pharmacy, Insurance qualified. - Good technical knowledge of Life underwriting including Protection business UW. - At least 10-12 years of related experience; Experience in Risk management is a must. Desired : - Underwriting and related technical certifications fromALU, LOMA and III - Excellent business writing skills and good ability to make effective presentations. - Knowledge of Financial services operations.
