Responsibilities :
General Scope & Summary :
- Manages the legal business matters pertaining to the organization for entire Asia Pacific region. Counsels all levels of executive management, directors, and staff on legal matters related to company operations.
- Acts as advisor to or coordinates external counsel on legal issues pertaining to litigation, government and regulatory compliance, data privacy and risk mitigation, intellectual property, and employment matters.
- May select, develop, supervise and evaluate paralegals, administrative staff, staff attorneys, and corporate counsel.
- Responsible for protecting company's interests related to legal issues and consulting with General Counsel on key legal matters.
- Prepares and reviews litigation materials, contracts, legal correspondence, advertisements and press releases.
- Provides legal advice to executive management on broad range of legal matters. Delivers strategy for function or region.
Primary Role & Responsibilities :
- Manages the legal business matters pertaining to the organization. Prepares, reviews, and negotiates commercial contracts and licenses, litigation pleadings and documents, corporate governance materials, and regulatory filings.
- Manages outside counsel on key litigation matters as well as in obtaining consultation for development of company's position on various legal issues.
- Acts as advisor to or coordinates with external counsel on legal issues including but not limited to the organization's government and regulatory compliance, litigation, data privacy and risk mitigation, employment/labor matters, real estate, intellectual property and patents. Prepares documents to support same.
- Independently manages litigation and employment matters, advising General Counsel as needed, and counseling executive management on litigation strategy.
- Responsible for protecting company's interests related to legal issues. Manages the implementation of corporate policies and strategy, working with key managers across functions.
- Assists in the development of HR and security policies, serving as key legal contact for HR matters. Independently manages contract negotiations involving wide range of commercial transactions.
- Provides legal advice to all levels of executive management, management, and staff.
- Provides advice to General Counsel and operational functions on developments in law/regulation. Delivers strategy for function or region.
- May review patent material and literature and work with engineering/technical staff to determine feasibility on infringement matters and defend company in legal action.
- Provides advice and legal counsel to management and personnel on internal policies, regulations, and guidelines. May manage corporate counsel, paralegals,, and administrative staff.
- Advises General Counsel on regional matters and new business and legal developments with potential functional/ regional impacts.
- Ensures Legal department and/or regional strategies are delivered.
Qualifications :
Specialized Knowledge & Skills :
- Demonstrated competency in drafting legal documents, contract terms, and legal memoranda.
- Responsible for management of legal activities of major significance to the organization; may include supervision of counsel, paralegals, and adminstrative assistant and directing the activities of other department staff.
- Requires extensive functional expertise and broad company knowledge
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage other legal staff
- Ability to communicate complex information and legal concepts to broad range of clients, from staff employees to executive management
- Independently handles complex aspects of position and creatively solves complicated issues in effective manner.
- General working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience in training corporate counsel on new business and new contract practices and polices
- Ability to research and apply applicable law to job responsibilities and collaborate with department colleagues
Job Requirements :
- 10 + years of experience.
- JD degree and Bar admission for US counsel or equivalent certification required in local country of practice.
- Ability to pass a background check may also be required.
- Depending on country of assignment, may require certain language skills
