Kohler - Assistant Manager - LCC Supplier Development

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide comprehensive purchased product quality support to Low Cost Country sourcing and category leader teams. Completes engineering assignments by following prescribed procedures. Executes projects by reusing a production technology or architecture based on existing product(s). Makes appropriate decisions using decision support tools and critical thinking. Has a curious mind in general and the capacity to learn.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Establish and implement consistent supplier selection and assessment processes, including input in to the Qualified Supplier List. Conduct quality assessments of potential suppliers, drive recordable improvements based on results and assist Procurement in determining appropriate suppliers to quote for purchased products. Conduct on-site audits of existing key suppliers on a regular or as requested basis.

- Lead the cross-functional Print & Process Review process for purchased products for local market

product including organizing attendees, defining timelines, understanding of key characteristics and GD&T callouts, expected process controls and recording of decisions and agreements.

- Conduct PPAP's for local market purchased products/drawings changes including process flow, pFMEA, MSA, capability studies, dimensional conformance, AAR, performance testing and documented control plans in accordance with the Product Policy requirements.

- If necessary, assign and follow-up appropriate CAR's for interim approved PPAP's to achieve full PPAP approval, including communicating additional controls, as necessary, to provide conforming product during this temporary acceptance timeframe.

- Utilize existing data (warranty & shop floor) to assist in the risk assessment.

- Identify and pursue opportunities for supplier development in quality systems, products, and processes. Utilize proven methodologies such as ISO, SPC, Lean and Six Sigma to drive recordable improvements in quality, cost and delivery.

- Monitor and communicate supplier response and follow-up activities on any non-conforming products including investigation, sorting, analysis, disposition, deviation and corrective action.

- Assist LCC sourcing Teams on strategic initiatives such as finish development qualification and/or assembly line setup.

- Personally demonstrate and drive the Kohler Core Competencies (Build Trust, Set High Standards, Drive Continuous Improvement and Focus on the End Customer).

RELATIONSHIP AND CONTACTS:

Supervisory Relationships:

- Report to Sr. Mgr - Supplier Development, Low Cost Country

Organization Relationships:

- Frequent contact with Sourcing regarding products & suppliers.

- Frequent contact with Engineering/Design regarding products & standards.

- Frequent contact with Operations/Manufacturing regarding purchased part related performance issues.

- Frequent contact with other Supplier Quality associates regarding suppliers in their respective areas.

External Business Relationships:

- Frequent contact with current and potential suppliers regarding product related performance, process control & capability, as well as improvement opportunities.

Occasional visits to domestic supplier locations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

- 7-10 years of previous quality and engineering experiences with an international organization. Must possess an excellent understanding of quality systems, quality audits, product qualification and manufacturing processes (casting, injection molding, assembly), basic statistical methods, improvement methodologies; green belt, black belt is a plus, and program management skill set.

SKILL LEVEL:

- Performs the Quality Project tasks described for assignments of moderate scope with some direction from the manager

- Must have the capability to apply fundamental quality techniques to wide range of projects

- Shall be actively developing skills in product, process and system related techniques

- Solid oral & written communication skills with ability to communicate well at all levels of organization

- Well organized, manages time and projects effectively, Analytical thinking with a high degree of problem solving skills and attention to detail

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:

This position may require up to 40% travel domestically to support Procurement and Quality initiatives.
