EM Economics Research Junior Data Scientist / Research Analyst: J.P. Morgan's Global Research Center (GRC) was set up in Mumbai in August 2003 as an extension of the firm's global equity research teams around the world. GRC has grown steadily and the team of analysts has expanded to provide coverage for the key sectors globally. Besides working with J.P. Morgan's equity research teams, GRC Analysts are now engaged with other areas of public side research including fixed income research, strategy, derivatives, commodities, quant and indices The J.P. Morgan Global Emerging Markets (EM) Economics team conducts research aimed at understanding macroeconomic developments as they happen and improving our forecasts of growth, inflation, labor markets and central bank policy. Our research and forecasts reach a wide audience of decision makers inside J.P. Morgan and clients around the world. We seek a data scientist to assist us on greenfield data science projects and fine-tune current ML/NLP models. There will be an emphasis on sourcing new, alternative forms of data. The individual should have a willingness to learn and be a self-starter. Beyond data analysis there is the opportunity to contribute to and author research notes. Specific responsibilities include: - Training and running ML models with our existing economic data - Model building and development - Work on NLP models to assess economic-relevant sentiment (e.g. hawkish/dovish central bank language) - Find new alternative data sources - Automate existing excel sheets and data analytics files using VBA (or Python/R) - Work with J.P. Morgan's Machine Learning Center of Excellence to develop ML techniques. - Support in the creation of prototype models, analytical tools and dashboards. - Turn raw data into useful and analysable derived data sets - Communicating and interacting regularly with the team in London and New York Essential Skills, Experience, and Qualifications: - Relevant degree subject (e.g. Statistics, Data Science, Economics/econometrics) - Competency in VBA, Python and R. - Good Python experience (Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow / keras or PyTorch) - A good understanding of machine Learning: regressions, classification, clustering, kernel methods; model evaluation techniques; regularisation and normalisation techniques - Prior experience of working with economic data - Excellent communication skills to explain data and model results and discuss them verbally J.P.
