VSO is the world's leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. They bring people together to share skills, build capabilities, promote international understanding and action to change lives and make the world a fairer place.

In PNG, each year over 100,000 young people leave school without completing a primary education. Despite huge progress in enrolment through free education levels of literacy and numeracy are low. There are a number of NGOs, churches and a Government service to help but the quality and scale is limited.

Since 1960, VSO has worked in PNG. VSO would like to work more in Education sector with young people who need basic skills, including entrepreneurship and will be funding a placement to explore opportunities and develop projects for submission to donors. This is an exciting role to further develop VSO's portfolio of projects in PNG.

Role Overview:

Lead the design of projects which help improve the literacy, numeracy and entrepreneurship skills of young people who have not completed a primary education. Build partnerships, relationships and collaboration with DoE, NGOs, churches and donors to fund and manage the projects. Design placements and collect and analyse evidence for the projects.

Skills, qualifications and experience required:

- Knowledge of adult or out-of-school youth education

- Skills of networking and partnership building

- Able to collect, analyse and report data from different sources

- Passionate about improving work opportunities for young men and women

- Able to draw up a detailed and realistic budget and clear proposal

- All applicants must possess strong written and spoken English language skills

- Applicants may be required to take a VSO language test as part of the selection process
