iVolunteerOverseas - Marketing & IT Advisor

VSO - Tanzania has more than 50 years of operations delivering livelihoods projects supporting vulnerable people by promoting of small to medium business enterprises; supporting vocational training and skills development in local trades; and strengthening structures and networks of community-based organizations that are involved in economic development.

For this placement, VSO volunteer will work as part of the Tanzania Local Economic Development- Extractive Industries project which aims to increase the benefit to local communities in Tanzania of investment in the mining industry.

You will work with the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) to coach and mentor local companies in the mining supply chain to improve their marketability; learn techniques in developing tenders that meet industry requirements to win contracts; discover potential company advertising methods; and the use of IT as a tool for marketing and managing the business.

You will also coach SIDO staff providing business support services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to improve the quality of marketing and IT management support. Ultimately you will contribute to local companies winning more contracts and employing more people and therefore ensuring a greater proportion of mining investment benefits local people.

Skills, qualifications and experience required

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, IT, or related subjects

- Experience in developing marketing / IT management systems

- Able to develop and implement strategic marketing / IT methods applicable to business at a SME level in developing countries

- Good experience in establishing and supporting organization development

- Facilitation and training skills

- Fluency in English
