VSO is the world's leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. VSO has extended its recruitment program to India through its partner iVolunteer Overseas (iVO). Since 2005, more than 200 committed and skilled volunteers have been placed through iVO program and have come back with enriched lives and careers.

VSO is just beginning its work in Myanmar, having begun the research and exploration only one year ago. In Myanmar the space for civil society to operate has been strictly limited in recent decades, but this is changing.

Paung Ku, a local Civil Society in Myanmar has transitioned to becoming a locally registered organization and has applied for registration in Minister of Home Affairs, Myanmar. In this transition to become independent organization, Paung Ku is in the process of developing its own financial system including financial policies and procedures. In addition, Paung Ku intended to develop simple financial management guidelines and systems for its civil society partners. VSO is supporting Paung Ku and the VSO volunteer Finance Advisor will assist in these processes.

Role overview :

- Develop an understanding of the financial management system

- Review the draft financial policies that have been drafted by Paung Ku and provide recommendation for finalization

- Review the AEC financial accounting software being develop for Paung Ku and provide recommendations for introduction of use of software by Paung Ku, including any modifications to the software as needed and training of staff in use of the software

- Draft a Finance Manual for Paung Ku to include all procedures, forms and reporting formats required

- Provide and introduce to all Paung Ku finance staff and Managers and provide ongoing support to ensure that they are able to implement and comply with new policies and procedures

Skills, qualifications and experience required :

- University degree in financial management or accounting

- Preferred to have at least three year experiences in helping civil society organizations to be able to develop their own financial policy and procedures and manual

- Experiences in working on international accounting and financial management standards

- Experiences in conducting hands-on trainings for financial management

- Experience in using the accounting / financial management software

- Proven tracked record of delivering successfully the development of financial manual, especially in development sectors

Duration of placement : 6 months
