IT Auditor Role in Corporate Internal Audit

- The principal objective of Internal Audit is to provide assurance to top management on the existence and adequacy of systems and control in all areas of operations of its various businesses.

- Information Technology (IT) Audit, within Internal Audit, provides independent assurance over the areas of risk associated with IT Infrastructure, IT Management processes and it’s support to the business operations. Scope of IT audit also includes evaluating and improving the adequacy/effectiveness of Risk Management, Controls, IT Governance processes and compliance to laid down IT policies.

- IT auditor role offers an opportunity to learn and understand the Business Domains, Technology and Business processes from a diverse range of IT projects in multiple domains such as FMCG, Paper boards, Packaging & Printing, Hotels, Agri businesses and Retailing.

- This job entails considerable travel to various business locations.

- The auditor will work in a team comprising of IT and Finance Professionals and will be responsible for conducting audits of different IT initiatives in the group. The coverage of the audits will include Availability, Security/Confidentiality, Integrity, Auditability, IT Governance, User Acceptance Testing, Access Control Management and Change Management aspects.

IT Auditor Profile

- IT Auditor need to have certain basic skills to assure that the IT control and governance framework is effective and is managed efficiently to address business risks.

- Educational background. Engineering Graduate / Post Graduate degree in Computer Science or Information Technology from reputed institute is preferred with excellent academic credentials. Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) Certification

- Experience The IT Auditor must have minimum 3 to 5 years of project implementation / functional support experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package SAP. In depth Functional experience in one of the SAP ECC modules (FI/CO or Materials Management(MM) or Production Planning(PP)) is mandatory.

- In addition knowledge on non-ERP applications, including Web based applications and have basic awareness of the infrastructure platforms/SAP BASIS is preferable. The growing complexity and vulnerabilities of computer systems requires that IT auditors have excellent functional/technical expertise.

- Written and Verbal Communication skills. IT auditors need to have excellent written and verbal communication skills. They need to communicate the functiona/technical audit finding in the language of the business stakeholders leading to objective conclusion. It is important to have the skills to logically present any issue with conviction and confidence to have management buy-in. It is to be noted that auditors may have to communicate with very senior managers during audit assignments and finalizations.

- Other skills. IT Auditing is a skill of understanding business and technology risk aspects, governance, control best practices and data analysis methodologies. Domain competency along with reasonable functional/technical exposure in the area of operation is essential aspects of IT auditor. IT Auditor must have a genuine interest in understanding new technology for enhancing the knowledge level required for an audit assignment and must be aware of the current trends.
