We have 350 analysts covering 1,900+ companies, 60+ economies, 45+ sovereigns rates and 50+ currencies globally. Our analysts, based out of 24 countries, are spread across Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa.

With a particular focus on EMs, as well as climate change issues, we provide regular comment and analysis on topics including economics, currencies, fixed income and equities. HSBC Global Research, Bangalore

As a member of the Global Research team in Bangalore, you will be working with onshore/offshore Climate Change and ESG Leads on HSBCs climate and ESG products and services

Purpose of the job

To be an integral team member of the Climate and ESG team within Global Research:

- Maintain an exhaustive database of ESG parameters for a range of companies and sectors identified for the purpose

- Identify and analyse ESG themes that can have material impact on the prices of securities

- Analyse the ESG/sustainability performance of companies / sectors

- Provide insightful analysis on climate & ESG issues across sectors and regions

- Undertake detailed policy and country specific research on ESG themes

- Analyse the impact of ESG-related regulations on various industries/ sectors

- Benchmark ESG themes within/across different sectors and identify emerging trends

- Analyse the impact of regulations on various industries /sectors and asset classes

- Maintain a long-term historical record of corporate actions/events, litigations, penal actions by the government, etc. for each company

- Write report - Industry thematic, corporate/government policy reviews, country/sector specific reports

Skills/Experience Required

Skill Set

Being proactive with a positive attitude and high energy are key personal/professional attributes. This role also requires constant communication and collaboration with teammates. The skills below are essential for a smooth functioning -

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Hands-on experience in dealing and managing large data sets

- Working within a tight deadlines framework

- Ability to follow technical instructions

- Ability to join dots across various thematics

- Strong attention to detail


- MBA (Finance) / MSc or PhD in economics

- High level proficiency in data collation, management and analysis


- 1-5 years of experience preferably in Environmental, Social and Governance research or sustainability

- Good knowledge on financial market in general

- Systems

- Proficient with MS office

- Knowledge of financial databases such as Bloomberg and/or Reuters

Global Risk and Compliance

Global risk objective

- Understand and adhere to both the letter and the spirit of all laws, regulations and regulatory guidance that apply to the role, promptly reporting any breaches in accordance with local procedures.

- Maintain sufficient and effective processes and controls identifying and mitigating risks and ensure timely escalation and resolution of all control issues and reputation risks


- DIM/FIM: Adherence to Global Research's policies and procedures as laid out in the Desk Instruction Manual (DIM), Functional Instruction Manual (FIM) and any other relevant group policies and procedures

- Conduct Risk: Adherence to : (1) the Conduct Risk agenda, ensuring full compliance with the High Performance Culture and Values programme; (2) Group directives regarding Global Standards; (3) the Three Lines of Defence

- Mandatory Training: Ensure 100% completion of your mandatory training on time
