Job Description:

Position - Head of Technology

This is a high stake Leadership role for our Group (including (verona.club & athenaeducation.co.in); and the individual will get challenging opportunities to work on and grow with the team and the company.

Verona.club is an authenticated matchmaking community designed exclusively for the modern, global Indian. We're on a mission to foster fulfilling partnerships that last lifetimes. In a country where dating app disillusionment abounds, Verona makes the matchmaking process delightful-and effective.

Security and Science make the basis of Verona where before matchmaking there will be Fintech-grade authentication to ensure fraud detection. Through a deep appreciation for the science of compatibility, with Verona, we will be using AI for matchmaking based on an individual's core & shared values.

Athena is India's largest institution in the "premium undergraduate study abroad" space. Founded 10 years ago by two Princeton graduates, Poshak Agrawal and Rahul Subramaniam, Athena is headquartered in Gurgaon, with offices in Mumbai and Bangalore, and caters to students from 15 countries.

Athena's Tech arm - HORA.ai, is a high caliber, multi-million dollar valued startup funded by the biggest names in Tech. The founding team consists of 3 Princeton University grads who are successful serial entrepreneurs. Our investors include Amit Singhal (former Global Head of Search at Google), Mike Novogratz (CEO of Galaxy Investment Partners), and Yuvraj Singh (co-founder of DMI Finance, a $2.2B alternative lending company).

Key Attributes:

- Ability to deep dive hands-on into coding, building scalable architecture and backend infrastructure

- Strong knowledge of "how to scale" a product, Dev ops (Docker/ Kubernetes), Messaging queues, Testing, Database design, Security Log management system

- Extremely hands-on in coding and a strong interest in leading a team.

- Knowledge of tech stack, which in our case is Node.js/GraphQL/TypeScript for API development, React.JS, javascript ecosystem , PostgreSQL, AWS, and Python for data processing.

- Proven technical experience of 7 + years of work-ex coupled with a strategic growth mindset

- Enjoys hands-on, day-to-day work while having a bigger-picture view of the goals to accomplish.

- Strong sense of ethics and integrity.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

- BTech/BS degree/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science or related technical field from Tier 1/IITs/NIITs

- 7+ years of relevant work experience.

- Experience with a Startup or Entrepreneurial experience in the B2C sector.

You will be responsible for:

Software Design and Architecture:

- Lead the design and architecture efforts for software projects, aligning with the latest proven technologies and addressing the specific needs of Athena and Hora.

- Establish a robust roadmap that supports both short-term goals and long-term strategic objectives.

Software Development Process:

- Lead the team in following the software development process, including writing unit tests, conducting code reviews, organizing daily standups, setting OKRs and milestones, etc.

- Ensure the team adheres to high-quality coding standards and practices.

Backend Development:

- Develop backend code for mobile applications and internal web tools, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and security.

- Design and implement APIs for the mobile platform, facilitating seamless integration with front-end components.

Infrastructure Ownership and Innovation:

- Own, innovate, and maintain the backend infrastructure, implementing improvements and optimizations as needed.

- Collaborate closely with the Machine Learning team to integrate cutting-edge tools and technologies into the software development process.

Continuous Learning and Collaboration:

- Stay informed about state-of-the-art technologies and apply them to enhance software development practices.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, share knowledge through tech talks, and promote engineering best practices within the team.

Team Management and Mentoring:

- Manage, lead, and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

- Demonstrate best engineering practices, providing guidance on coding standards, design principles, and overall technical excellence.
