Position Title: Head of Tax (Appario & Frontizo)

Location: Bangalore

Reporting: CFO of Appario & Frontizo.

Frontizo and Appario are seeking a Head of Tax, for role based in Bangalore. The candidate must be comfortable in directly liaising with various business teams within the company with an aim of gaining a deep understanding of the business vision and model in order to develop comprehensive tax solutions in support of the business, develop tax requirements that clearly articulate such solutions, and drive the implementation of the tax requirements. This position will primarily support both Frontizo and Appario business teams on Tax matters and the ideal candidate will have experience evaluating issues specifically related to BPO and e-retail business in India.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, detail oriented and will possess the ability to work well with cross-functional teams. He/she will work towards ensuring that we have a seamless tax compliances and support finance/business functions with timely information sharing. This role would also require working knowledge of various tools and systems in place. Equally important for success in this role is the ability to lead diverse teams of professionals to new levels of success in a variety of complex tasks as the business continues to grow.

Summary of Responsibilities:

- Oversee tax filings and assessments, respond to notices/litigations/demands, represent company before authorities/appellate forums, liaison with statutory/internal auditors on preparing/justifying tax positions and addressing queries

- Demonstrate advanced tax knowledge to review the tax positions adopted by the company in line with the legislative changes and ensures tax positions is clear and mitigate risks in company's interest;

- Partnering with business teams on all tax related matters for Frontizo and Appario, track and pro-actively communicate the tax policy changes, drive the change management as required.

- Partner on program launches to evaluate/de-risk/optimize from tax perspective.

- Lead the engagement with the vendors to ensure the leakages due to vendor tax behaviors are minimized and tax positions are aligned.

- Analyzing and evaluating the possible planning opportunities and strategies under applicable tax laws

- Lead the charter on assessment preparedness and devise the framework for audits and assessment across India.

- Manage GST department communications, audits and assessments for PAN-India.

- Handle GST related litigations including representation before the tax authorities and investigation agencies. To effectively perform, incumbent is expected to have deep understanding of tax laws, its practical nuances and able to apply it to the business situations on all tax related matters.

- Manage the litigations, engaging with senior counsels and assisting in matters before Appellate forums, High Court/Supreme courts

- Manage the compliances under Income tax laws, including tax audit, assessments and litigations

- Handle the requirements under transfer pricing regulations

- Work closely with Finance teams in assisting Statutory Audit, Internal Audit and books closure from tax perspective.

- Undertake and review tax positions adopted by the company on periodic basis and take appropriate decisions with change/new business models.

- Build the right team size, attracts and retain talent by ensuring their engagement and development

- Drive the monthly tax reviews with leadership

Basic Qualifications:

- A Chartered Accountant or MBA from Tier-1 college by qualification with 12+ years of Direct and Indirect tax experience in public accounting firm, large multinational or professional services firm

- Thorough technical knowledge of Direct and Indirect Taxes and related compliance requirements.

- Strong hands on experience and Knowledge of tax issues and recent updates

- General business awareness

- Good Excel, presentation and report writing skills

- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely

- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem solving skills

- Excellent drafting skills to be able to communicate complex tax ideas and analysis in plain English language to business groups being supported

- Work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

- Chartered Accountant/CWA with 10+ years of experience

- Highly organized, self-motivated, detail oriented, and ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment

- The ability to conceptualize and manage multiple projects

- Strong bias for action and ability to prioritize

- Strong project management experience

- Understanding of accounting concepts preferred

- Detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects

- Able to extract, analyze, and review data and make appropriate recommendations

- Hard working, quicker learner with a positive ''can do'' attitude and solid professionalism

- Partner well with people at all levels within an organization

- Able to work in a fast paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment
