Responsibilities

- Interpret and implement financial regulations pertaining to our business and drive compliance. To set compliance frameworks for day-to-day investment and business operations and monitor/audit them periodically. To provide guidance, advice on product developments, and approval on marketing claims and marketing materials in India and overseas, from a legal lens. To vet new product launches from a legal and regulatory lens. Provide legal advice to business teams on day-to-day operations. Coordinating with various internal stakeholders and advising them on legal issues.

- Provide guidance from a legal perspective and set strategic direction for all corporate commercial matters. Review and participate in the negotiation and approval of material contracts. Proactively ensure compliance in all areas of laws and contractual agreements and have preventive measures in place. To ensure the legality of all significant contracts entered in particular with regard to third-party contractors, distributors, purchasing, employment, compensation etc. To advise on employment-related issues e.g. termination, severance, mutual separation, outsourcing arrangements, employment templates.

- Oversight and compliance frameworks for various legal, regulatory, and government affairs-related matters. Driving compliance training and initiatives in India and overseas across teams. Create compliance calendars/checklists and audit their implementation from time to time.

- Development and maintenance of relationships with relevant external contacts and organizations (e.g. external lawyers, lawyers of key customers/competitors, regulators etc). Identifying work to be outsourced, selection, and management of external lawyers, their fee arrangements, and service levels. When the event requires the appointment of external lawyers, instruct external lawyers, manage and liaise with them.

Requirements

- 8-10 years of relevant experience of working at top tier law firms in areas of corporate law/investments/financial sector & lending regulations OR handling such matters as an in-house legal counsel in a financial sector/fintech firm.

- Strong expertise in legal drafting, research, negotiation, and with commercial and contentious work

- High competence to review and identify common legal issues in complex commercial documentation

- Competence in a broad range of corporate and business laws, including various FEMA/RBI/SEBI regulations along with the ability to address related research questions with ease

- Ability to analyze business processes, spot issues, and propose/implement solutions from a legal and compliance lens

- Ability to function autonomously yet communicate laterally and upward with ease

- Interest in start-up and fintech ecosystems along with the curiosity to track and keep abreast of the changing regulatory landscape

- High motivation, creative problem solving, and laser-focused on the details

- The ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and to re-prioritize quickly to address shifting business needs
